getting to Port Antonio isn't easy, but that is part of the charm once you arrive.
It is remote, green, and unspoiled. Wilks Bay is a lovely place to stay and James and Mary were as kind and accommodating as one could hope for. There is no restaurant which is fine because they provide a private chef in your room to prepare what you desire, fresh daily. We looked out onto the pool and an extra 10 meters away is the beach. There is a private dock, hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, the Blue Lagoon nearby, and SO quiet at night, windows wide open, just charming and delightful. Walking distance to Frenchman's Cove beach. We cannot wait to return!

James and Mary were wonderful hosts, from the moment we started planning our trip to insuring that our driver got us to the airport in Montego Bay safely and quickly. Our accommodations were exquisite and our housekeeper/cook Nadine went out of her way to make our meals and apartment memorable. The resort is located in an area that doesn't have very many tourists so we were able to plan and have adventures without crowds of people. James, on one afternoon, played host to a great walking history of Port Antonio, complete with street food and drinks! From having a massage on the beach to our last evenings lobster dinner on the bay, there were so many special moments to cherish! We will be sure to return.

Room tip: The resort has six apartments, we stayed in the upper one bedroom which we felt was the best, but all apartments had great views!

If you are looking for a glimpse of an off-the-trodden-path Jamaica, away from the maddening crowds, Wilks Bay is the perfect place to stay. Small and intimate, quiet and peaceful, there is still enough to do to during the day to satisfy one's need for adventure: kayaking, rafting the Rio Grande, hiking up Reach Waterfall. At night, there is a universe of stars to watch from the dock, the Atlantic providing background noise. Each apartment has its own cook: Brenda's meals were delicious, catered to our every desire. We will return again.

Quaint small resort owned and run by a family. Tranquility, great snorkeling, kayaking, good food. An ideal getaway. Spectacular view of the bay from any room. Walking distance to Frenchman's Cove and San-San beaches. The owners and staff are very friendly and helpful.

We just returned from our 3rd visit to Wilks Bay and are already dreaming of the next time. Why? Well it's pretty clear we love the place, and the Lowes (James, Mary and Nadia). For us, it feels more like visiting close friends. We returned this time with another couple who were with us last time, as they too have fallen for the Wilks Bay.

If you are looking for a fancy, high end resort, you might be happier down the road at the Trident or at GeeJam.

If you like the idea of lovely, clean accommodations on a private lagoon, with real food made by your own personal housekeeper (Angelia you blew our minds again), you need to go to Wilks Bay. If you like feeling like you have the place to yourself most of the time, and you appreciate the personal touch that the Lowes deliver, you need to go to Wilks Bay.

We rose every morning to coffee, and then a hike up the SanSan mountain right behind Wilks Bay.....a beautiful jungle path that'll help you burn off some of the incredible food you'll be eating (how about some homemade key lime pie?) Followed that with snorkelling in the lagoon, and then a stroll to the next lagoon over, to Frenchmans Cove.....one of the most jaw dropping beaches you'll ever see.

On previous trips we've been (twice) to Reach Falls (breathtaking experience), and Boston Beach (for jerk and this time surfing lessons). This trip we did Rio Grande rafting with lunch at Belinda's riverside "restaurant"..... So glad we did...it was awesome....and we also visited Winnifred Beach and had lunch at Sintia's. Amazing again.

The whole experience of Wilks Bay and Port Antonio is a "real" vacation where you can feel like a local....which we love. The people are incredibly interesting and friendly.

We finished our trip on Sunday night at the Natural Mystic in Drapers for the street reggae party with James, Nadia and another couple who were staying at Wilks Bay.

Thanks James, Mary, Nadia and your staff for having us again and making sure we had another amazing visit.

See you again soon.
