My husband and I went to Wilks Bay on our honeymoon and had a fantastic time! It was everything we wanted and more!
The Short Version: We are not into the big touristy types of places so this was perfect for us- relaxing, intimate, and authentic. Mary and James are wonderful hosts and feel more like good friends. They will take care of everything you could possibly need and go out of their way to make their guests happy, and we truly appreciated that! When we showed up they surprised us by upgrading us to the bungalow and had it all decorated to celebrate our marriage. We were truly blown away and immediately knew we were in for an amazing stay. And let me tell you the vacation did not disappoint! We spent our days exploring and our nights relaxing eating amazing dinners cooked by the even more amazing AnnMarie. There is so much to do here and everything is so beautiful. But what truly, truly sets this place apart is the people. Every single person was so kind and welcoming and willing to help with anything. We have never had a more relaxing vacation and you don’t have to lift a finger if you don't want to. We ended our trip with what we though was a simple dinner on the beach, but Mary went above and beyond and decorated the whole beach for us- it was like something...My husband and I went to Wilks Bay on our honeymoon and had a fantastic time! I cannot say enough good things about each and every person we encountered on our trip. We are already dreaming of when we can go back again!
More Details: AnneMarie, our housekeeper/cook was AMAZING! she is so friendly, has a great personality, and made amazing meals. I have celiacs (a severe gluten allergy) and AnneMarie handled it perfectly and I never once got sick. She was very careful, asked me about my needs, and took suggestions about how I cook at home to make our meals gluten free. If anyone has a food allergy of any kind, I would tell you to book here without hesitation because they will work with you and go out of their way to make things you can eat. Plus, it was all delicious!!! Seriously, every single meal was amazing! Our favorites were the brown stewed shrimp, pumpkin rice, bread fruit, friend plantains... I could keep going!
There is so much to do here and I posted reviews on everything on the Things To Do section of trip advisor. While we were there (1 week) we enjoyed visiting Frenchmans Cove, San San Beach, a boat trip to Blue Lagoon and Monkey Island (have James book this for you to get the best rate), Reach Falls, and Boston Jerk Center. I would highly recommend them all! But we also took time to just relax- Seriously, take in the scenery, watch the sun go down from the pool, eat every meal steps from the ocean. It is all so beautiful and relaxing! I even got a massage down on the pier and it was worth every penny!! Also, do not miss opportunities to hang out with James!!! He will show you a lot of great things in the area like… He took us to oldies night at a local bar where they played old reggae music from 45’s, a lot of fun and you can drink like a local. He gave us a tour of Port Antonio and took us shopping- he knows so so so much about this area and it is all so interesting, makes you really appreciate where you are. He had a bonfire on the beach for all of the guests. We loved meeting other couples and families from all over the world and teaching the Swedish boys who were staying on the resort how to toast marshmallows. Not to mention James makes an awesome rum punch :)
Seriously, my advice- just book it, don’t hesitate- you will not be disappointed!More
