Description: OUR STORY BEGINS with the opening of Rick's Cafe by its founder, Richard Hershman, in April 1974. At the time, Negril was a sleepy fishing village with little development. It lacked many modern amenities such as electricity, telephone and hot running water. Our beautiful little cliffside location was originally owned by a local doctor, the son of the first Governor General of independent Jamaica. RICK’S CAFE was the first public bar and restaurant of its type on the West End Cliffs, offering an alternative to Negril's majestic seven mile beach. From the beginning, Rick's Cafe boasted an unrivaled view of the sunset from its naturally formed cliffs. Over the years, visitors and locals alike have designated Rick's Cafe as Negril's premier gathering spot and our sunsets have become a Jamaican tradition.

We knew it was touristy but wanted to go check it out.
Loved spending an hour watching people jump off the 25 & 35 foot platforms before I built up the nerve to jump. We also contributed to watch a local jump from the 85ft pole! The sunset is very pretty - same view as from our hotel since we stayed on 7 mile beach but it was great to watch from another site.

We decided to go to Ricks because it is recommended everywhere and because it was close to our hotel. I do research before we go to things and almost didn't go because it seemed so "touristy". We went as part of a little package I created of walking on 7 mile beach and then being escorted for sunset to ricks. It was very, very busy and loud. There was a DJ with huge speakers and a stage. (I love music, but this was definitely a party like scene). We went to the restaurant which had little selection and really was more like a chain than "real Jamaican food". However the service was excellent and the food did taste good. We went for the sunset so I got a spot and watched it...yes it was amazing...but the background was the DJ counting down and people yelling and it really took a lot of the magic away from the natural beauty. Again, I read the history of Ricks and I really like it and yes it is a place "to go" maybe once just to say "I did it". After the sunset we faught threw the crowds and eventually saw really cool stairs that lead to the cliff jumping area. That was the coolest part. People were jumping off and it looked fun. We loved that we could get right down to the water! And then we left. Best: cliff and sunset Least: loud, touristy, people. When talking with local Jamaicans most of them think it is pretty cool that Ricks is doing so well, so they support it. We wouldn't go back, but it was fine. Just wasn't our idea of taking in the sunset and culture.

Super busy, but fun for all ages! Food was good too! We had the lobster, filet and jerk chicken. A little touristy but still very fun. Great DJ and entertainment.

We arrived by catamaran (arranged by our hotel). Rick’s Cafe has to be seen at least once. So if in Negril, Jamaica see it! The sunset was beautiful. If brave enough do the jump, so you can tell all your friends that you did it! The water is as beautiful as it gets, so take the (small) plunge. The food, drinks and souvenirs were a little on the expensive side (typical of a tourist trap), but seeing Ricks Café is a must! Enjoy!

Good dancing, fun watching people, good party place but drinks are pricey. There is cliff diving if you are into that. They are also vendors outside for souvenirs.
