We enjoyed Banana Shout. Milo & Laura were very nice, although we chose to mostly keep to ourselves as we were looking for quiet time together and everyone respected this fact just fine. There are 3 dogs on property, all friendly, and we loved hanging with Chili on the patio. The Red Rooster cottage was massive, having a beautiful view of the ocean from the second floor balcony, and I spent many hours relaxing and snoozing in the extremely comfortable hammock on the balcony. The property is secure, with a locked gate and security at night. The experience of staying here is somewhat "rustic", which was completely fine with us, but others should know there is no AC, no TV, no phone, etc. We did have Wi-Fi, and this worked well most of the time. The ocean breeze keeps things cool, but there are bugs, mosquitos, small lizards, etc. that will be in the rooms via small holes in the screens, etc. There are mosquito nets, and usually keeping a solid coat of spray on will avoid most bites from various bugs and such, and I'd recommend doing so before going to bed as well. Shampoo and conditioner can be bought cheaply at the mini-mart down the street. There are a few extremely good restaurants at walking distance nearby - Ras Roadys, Sharks, Ivan's etc., as well as mini-marts, and most of the others are a short taxi ride away (we never had a problem finding a ride). The vibe is very chill, and we spent hours laying on the chaise lounges on the cliffs staring at the stars at night. We also swam off of the cliffs, although this is not ideal some days when the water is rough. The grounds are gorgeous, with many beautiful blooming flowers. There are dogs that bark at night, the crashing of the waves against the cliffs are actually louder than you would think, and the roosters do start crowing around 3 or 4am, but we chalked it up to the local experience and a pair of ear plugs will do the trick if you are a light sleeper. This place is much more about the local experience than your typical all-inclusive, and is excellent as long as the vibe and experience are in line with what you are looking for in your stay in Negril. We would return.

Room Tip: All rooms will have an ocean view.

Milo & Laura were the most amazing hosts, took us all over the island to experience the real deal Jamaica. We will never stay at a "Walmart" hotel again & will only stay with them! Personal driver (Rounde), ocean front cabana & you can walk out the gate to get authentic food or visit Ricks next door. The outdoor shower doesn't suck either ;-)

I and my husband just spent a week at the Shout. We hadn't been here in several years and were amazed by all the artwork created since our last visit. The cottages are the best place to watch for dolphins - and we actually got to see them surface from our front porch! Milo makes his guests feel as though they are part of his family, and we admire his diligence in keeping up the property in the face of hard economic times all over. We truly felt at home there (and it didn't hurt that Chili, Mila, and Shy Boy, three of his dogs, occasionally came to keep us company, reminding us of our four-legged son waiting in Chicago). Thank you for a fabulous time, Milo dear, and we hope to see you again next year!

Room Tip: The Dolphin cottages are right on the ocean and make for great dolphin watching!

Gorgeous views. Love the cliffs and Dolphin view cabin. Me and my lady had an amazing 5 days there. Milo and Laura are super cool. Ras Rounds drove us everywhere and Chili was hangin with us on the patio. 1 night Milo made us pene pasta and a delicous mushroom and tomato appetizer. Good vibes, amazing food and the herbs...yesir, love Jamaica. 1 downside was a total lack of internet anywhere but by the office and even that lacked. To be fair though, we were there during a pretty rainy September full of thunder storms and both Milo and our masseuse, Tanya confirmed that heavy rains make the internet sketchy. I do believe that this can be improved becaue there were some places that we were at during thunderstorms where the internet worked fine so that is the only reason that I withhold a star.

Room Tip: Both Dolphin cabins are phenomenal but there are really no bad views from any of the cabins they all face the ocean.

Can't remember the last time I was quite so relaxed. We had an absolutely all around wonderful time staying at Banana Shout. Milo and Laura are lovely people. All the staff are lovely people. (Chili the dog is so lovely I wanted to bring him home. I miss you so much Chili!). I really didn't want to leave. Every morning going down to the cliffs to eat breakfast. Surrounded by beautiful tropical landscaping and art work. And a stunning view of the emerald ocean and the horizon. Listening to the waves crashing. Jumping off the cliffs. Snorkeling the reef. Exploring the caves below that have been carved out by the ocean.

Strolling through some of the quieter neighborhoods of negril, surrounded by almond trees and bougainvillea. Eating good simple food that's cooked to order. Really friendly locals. We really didn't leave Banana shout very often. We were so comfortable there. Ventured to the beach couple of times but were so turned off by all the commercialism of the all inclusives, that we soon headed back to our private retreat.

Highly recommend Banana Shout if you're the kind of traveller who likes something that's unique. Where you meet local people. Eat real Jamaican food. See the countryside. Stay in rooms with the windows open and a cool breeze. Away from the crowds and the hawkers and the bars. Pure tranquility. We really really loved it at Banana Shout. Thanks Milo and Laura!!!!

Room Tip: Dolphin rooms are the best
