Blue Cave Castle

Negril has been a destination of mine for 27 years. I've camped on the beach, stayed with a fisheman on the cliffs, vacationed in luxury at the Rockhouse, secluded in beauty at Citronella but Blue Cave Castle this January may have been the most unique experience of all. I've seen this seemingly bizarre structure since the eighties and never gave it serious consideration but have read remarkable reviews by the loyal cadre of guests that frequent BCC. My wife and I gave it a try in January and it turned out to be a lotta fun. There are many reasons to go here. First the food. There are many great places to eat in Negril (Hungry Lion, Just Natural, Three Dives, Cosmos, Rockhouse just to name a few) but none surpassed the culinary skill of Chef Teddy at Blue Cave Castle. His curries, Lobster Thermador, Escovetch Fish and Jamaican Breakfast turned us into regulars each day. Besides witnessing Teddy at work in his breezy restaurant, you can eat anywhere on the property! Dining while catching a beautiful sunset at a table by the cliffs is truly a romantic evening. Special mention must be made of Ted's assistant Anise who hustles the food all over the property making sure you have everything you need. She exemplified the hard work the BCC staff put in everyday from Petrona, the conscientious manager who is an invaluable resource, to Susan the owner who is always available and friendly to Lorette who cleaned our room immaculately and wowed us with her towel oragami skills. These are the intangibles that set this place apart. Not to mention the Castle itself which is a wonder in design upon close-up inspection. Our room had a comfortable queen-size bed, a shower with good water pressure, a smaller single size bed great for reading, plenty of space and internet service. Plus a sun deck right by the ocean. The only thing we would hear at night was the gentle soundtrack of the sea. There are two great points for swimming and snorkeling off the cliffs. Plus there is the Blue Cave underneath the property than can be accessed by a unique stone walkway at the middle of the property or by ocean entry. Floating on my back and looking up at the amazing rock and fossils that make up the multi-colored cave and the cliff is an experience one will never forget. There are two other things worth mentioning. The location of BCC is perfect as it is very close to the center of town (banking and food), the beach if the water is too rough by the cliffs and the upper part of the scenic west end. The second is the wonderful Blue Mountain Coffee bar that makes waking up a pleasure. We could see why the eclectic group of guests we met come back each year.

I've stayed at BCC several times and really enjoy it. It is relaxing and clean. It is not a place to go if you are high maintenance, though. The rooms are modest, the "castle" decor is cheesy, and the staff only attend to you if they know you need something (which in my book is a good thing). If you want a place on the cliffs where you are not pestered, you do not pay an exorbitant sum, and the views are beautiful, it is the place for you!

My friend and I had a great time at BCC. We loved the vibe and staff was very friendly. We brought our own floats and rope and tied off to one of the ladders at the bottom of the cliffs. It was fun and relaxing. We stayed 4 days and never made it to the beach area. There is a food market just down the street and Teddy will cook anything for you too. Our only negative (we stayed in room #7) was the shower could use some help and the light fixture in the main room had seen many better days. A great place to take it easy. If you can't have fun in Jamaica, you can't have fun anywhere.

we stayed for 3 days there. We arrived one day prior to our booking and because our room was occupied for that night they gave us a bigger room discounted as our original room cost relatively less.. The staff was very polite and very helpful, and the food and service is awesome! Try the lobster with the white sauce... you will definitely lick your fingers.! The hotel is situated in a pretty quiet area of Negril, which was absolutely positive, since you dont get easily hassled in there! You can walk (20min) or take a route taxi to get to the 7milebeach.
The rooms were particularly beautiful< even the small upper tower room was so original. We were having the impression that we were sleeping ON the sea...! And the view is awesome!Definitely one of the best places to see the sunset!
But the thing we enjoyed most were the other guests of the hotel! most of them they stay there for a long time and they come back every year! i think that the place is so friendly that the guests after a while become one great company!

Petrona could possibly be the reason i come back to Blue Cave everytime i'm in Jamaica, she is amazing and makes you feel completely at home. A wonderful hostess for a truly unique and amazing property, there is no where else in the world like Blue Cave Castle. Come here if you want total relaxation and amazing views of the ocean. Teddy's food completes the awesome stay! Enjoy it!
