Negril has been a destination of mine for 27 years. I've camped on the beach, stayed with a fisheman on the cliffs, vacationed in luxury at the Rockhouse, secluded in beauty at Citronella but Blue Cave Castle this January may have been the most unique experience of all. I've seen this seemingly bizarre structure since the eighties and never gave it serious consideration but have read remarkable reviews by the loyal cadre of guests that frequent BCC. My wife and I gave it a try in January and it turned out to be a lotta fun. There are many reasons to go here. First the food. There are many great places to eat in Negril (Hungry Lion, Just Natural, Three Dives, Cosmos, Rockhouse just to name a few) but none surpassed the culinary skill of Chef Teddy at Blue Cave Castle. His curries, Lobster Thermador, Escovetch Fish and Jamaican Breakfast turned us into regulars each day. Besides witnessing Teddy at work in his breezy restaurant, you can eat anywhere on the property! Dining while catching a beautiful sunset at a table by the cliffs is truly a romantic evening. Special mention must be made of Ted's assistant Anise who hustles the food all over the property making sure you have everything you need. She exemplified the hard work the BCC staff put in everyday from Petrona, the conscientious manager who is an invaluable resource, to Susan the owner who is always available and friendly to Lorette who cleaned our room immaculately and wowed us with her towel oragami skills. These are the intangibles that set this place apart. Not to mention the Castle itself which is a wonder in design upon close-up inspection. Our room had a comfortable queen-size bed, a shower with good water pressure, a smaller single size bed great for reading, plenty of space and internet service. Plus a sun deck right by the ocean. The only thing we would hear at night was the gentle soundtrack of the sea. There are two great points for swimming and snorkeling off the cliffs. Plus there is the Blue Cave underneath the property than can be accessed by a unique stone walkway at the middle of the property or by ocean entry. Floating on my back and looking up at the amazing rock and fossils that make up the multi-colored cave and the cliff is an experience one will never forget. There are two other things worth mentioning. The location of BCC is perfect as it is very close to the center of town (banking and food), the beach if the water is too rough by the cliffs and the upper part of the scenic west end. The second is the wonderful Blue Mountain Coffee bar that makes waking up a pleasure. We could see why the eclectic group of guests we met come back each year.
