I found the actual hotel to be quiet average. Upon check in, men were working on the ceiling that fell before my eyes (Not the best way to start a vacation). The resort is huge but the staff are very friendly and accommodating. I had a great view and the room was clean and modern. However, the least attractive memory i have of my vacation was the guard who patrolled the beach with a rottweiler. My friend and I were hounded by locales selling merchandise from the beach. I learned that they could only sell there good from the water and were not allowed to step onto the beach. Overall I loved Jamaica and the staff at he RIU and plan on returning but i will never stay at another RIU.

My husband & I were there for a wedding in April. This all inclusive resort was amazing! I will just start from the beginning. It will take about two hours to get to the resort from the airport. The drivers drive slow, make a pit stop, and drop others off at resorts along the way to the Riu. Once you get there and you walk in the open lobby just take a deep breathe and have the time of your life! Every type of service was great. They really aim to please you, so anything you ask for they will provide it (except clocks). The food was good, but different. Don’t go in thinking that the food will taste exactly the same as it is in your country, it won’t. I read some other reviews about hot water. We had no problem with the water. Take your showers in the evening or late afternoon.

Do’s:
Bring bug spray & SPF 50 + ( they do sell it in the lobby gift shop for about $23)
Bring a small clock (they don’t have them in the rooms)
Tip your bartenders (about $10 for the day) they will take very good care of you
Do the catamaran boat ride to the Dunn's. It’s $60 and you get a boat ride to the Dunn’s (BRING WATER SHOES) and snorkel on the way back. We saw two dolphins on the way back to the resort. The guys were awesome! They provide the snorkel gear.
Do get a massage on the beach. If you like massages, get in the morning on the far part of the beach (by bldg 1). Ask for Arrateo, he is the best. He will walk the beach to get sign ups, book it then to get a discount.
Watch the nightly shows. They are not the best, but the Entertainment Staff are so nice and friendly. They walk around and talk to all the guests.
Women bring a lo of dresses ( maxi), men bring nice lenin pants, polos etc....
Bring a hat

Dont’s:
Don’t lose any key or armband they give you. You will have to pay to replace them
Don’t accept any offerings from the “good bush” its pot and they do have undercover agents on the beach at night offering it to you. You don’t want to get arrested in a third world country
Don’t forget your bathing suits!!!
Don’t do the sea-do’s. They are not through the resort and they ride on them with you. I saw people do it and it looked super lame.
Don’t hang out in the Sport Bar, (yes, its actually called Sport Bar) it is 24 hrs, but smells like dirty old musty socks. They do have slot machines and a pool table in there.

I hoped this helped!! Have a great time!!

Hotel is massive. There are two sides, quiet family oriented side and loud, party side. Very similar to other riu resorts in decor.

Rooms are spacious. For 3 people we got a junior deluxe suite.

There are always enough chairs on the beach and by the pool. Beaches ate clean.

Food was great. However would not recommend the Chinese and Japanese a la carte restaurants. Go to the gourmet steakhouse. No room service.

Staff were very friendly, accommodating and addressed all our needs and wants.

If you can go off the resort for real Jamaican patties, go to scotchies.

Where do I start.....
Friendly people/fantastic food/beautiful beach and then there were the pina coladas!
Me and my husband spent a week here from 10/4/12 weather was hit and miss but this didnt spoil our break. Room was cleaned every day with clean towels, and the room spotless.

We have travelled around the world and stayed in some nice hotels but we both thought the restaurants were brilliant at the RUI. Daily BBQ's, and always healthy or naughty options.

I do wonder whether some of the people who wrote the negative reviews were staying at the same hotel!

We did tip a few of the staff but that was our choice not because they asked.

Brilliant Island and hotel and both us would go back to this hotel.
