Location, location, location. This seaside cottage is a few minutes from Ocho Rios, but that's not the key to its appeal. It's located overlooking the water and right on a teeming, living reef, accessible off a little dock and down a ladder. The house itself is bare bones, eccentric, stuffed with native art and perfectly well equipped with an excellent kitchen, two Adirondack chairs, two hammocks, a dining table on a terrace overlooking the sea, cable TV, including HBO, a music deck, kayaks, snorkel equipment and the like, a mago tree that rains fresh fruit and two bathrooms including one downstairs with a shower open to the air yet surrounded by low walls studded with glass blocks filled with shells and plantlife. Owner Peter is an Etonian charmer, as are his four dogs and two cats, one of which, Kayak, lives in the cottage but is perfectly unobstrusive and friendly. If you want luxury, this house is not for you. But if you have any sense of the spirit of Jamaica and take delight in individuality, it's a beautiful bargain.

Room Tip: This is a standalone cottage attached to a larger villa. It has a full kitchen and maid service is available for a small additional fee

Pictures offer very little insight to the actual beautify of this place. It's eccentric, romantic, private, and all that good stuff. Peter and his staff were a true delight to meet. We will definitely return again and rent out the garden cottage as well. The area was safe enough for us to walk however the real danger came with passing cars and taxis. I hated being a pedestrian on the road and as a passenger in a route taxi but I'd take the latter over the former any day. Route taxis are cheap ways of getting around (we were charged $3 one-way total for both of us) however we didn't discover this until the day before we were scheduled to depart. If you need a chartered shuttle, though more costly, I highly recommend Michael with the luxury shuttle (he's listed in Te Moana's information booklet). There are absolutely no complaints regarding this stay. Mosquitoes were not a problem on this trip. I forgot to buy repellant and turns out didn't need it. There are sounds of insects and bugs in the night but it didn't bother either of us. We're already planning for a return next year. You can't go wrong with Te Moana.

We stayed for three nights in November - fantastic location, very friendly owners and a wonderful stay. Could not recommend it more for those looking to stay in Ocho Rios but want something a little different from the big resorts. You have the benefit of being right on the water but the privacy of your own space and home to stay in. Beautiful sunsets, the Caribbean on your doorstep and very comfortable hammocks!

We rented both cottages. The setting is amazing, the cottages original, quirky and well equipped and Peter is a warm, caring & informative host. The bedroom of the sea facing cottage is one of the most romantic places we ever slept in: totally open to the ocean and the sky (and without mosquito!). There was a thunder storm one night and the effect was surrealistic.
Beware though of the snorkeling at the foot of the garden. Illegal jetskis going very fast very close to shore make it quite dangerous.

We spent two weeks in the Seaside Cottage of Te Moana. Since we chose it by finding it on the internet we hoped that the difference between pictures and reality is not too big. We were not dissappointed. Quite the opposite. We arrived at night and when we woke up in the morning we couldn't believe how beautiful it was. You open your eyes and you see lush green plants and trees and the ocean. A mild breeze fills the room of the very open wooden house. You enter this house and you have a feeling of peace and quiet overcoming you.
The cottage has its own backyard, nicely landscaped and cleaned by the gardener. Walk a few steps down and you reach the private sundeck, covered partly by a tree for some shade. It also gives you easy access to the sea. Perfect for swimming, snorkeling and also boating, kajaks are provided for free. Grab a beer and watch the sun go down.

Things to consider:
If you are allergic to cats you might have a problem to tell "Kayak" - one of the three cats, but the only one you would see - not to stay at the cottage while you are there.
There are four dogs watching the property. They are nice dogs and they won't be in the cottages yard. They and many other dogs in the neighbourhood are a pain at night and in the morning when they start a barking session.
Sometimes the waves are higher and break at the reef which makes quite some noise and might bother some people. We definitely preferred it to the barking though!

Inside the house everything is pretty clean and you find all you need. Linens, towels and beachtowels are provided and changed every five days if you stay longer than a week. If you need anything else you can always ask the owners or the housekeeper living on the property. If you plan on some serious cooking you probably have to bring some things along.

It was our first time to Jamaica and we were very glad about the help we got from the owners friend staying there (the owners were abroad at that time). Thanks Ryan! It made things a lot easier for us.
We did quite some travelling all over the world so far but the seaside cottage was definitely one of the best and most beautiful spots we stayed at. Highly recommendable!
