“25th Anniversary Wedding Renewal”
Reviewed 1 May 2012

We celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary at Sandals Montego Bay. We wanted to honor our years together in a special way and Sandals Resort and their outstanding Wedding Team helped us to do just that. The property was just as pictured and described on the website, the food was excellent (not one bad meal was had) and service was outstanding. Most importantly though, the Sandals Wedding Team, gave us the memory of a lifetime for our vow renewal cermenony designed by Martha Stewart = PRICELESS!!

The resort was beautiful with plenty of activities including wate sports. We really enjoyed the beachfront suite and butler service. Everything was top notch. Snorkeling was great and the glass bottom boat was exciting. Also try the tubing behind the speed boat. Awesome!!! Although watch your eyes get alot of salt water in them. The food was good. Our favorite was the Thai restarant at Sandals Royal Carribbean. We really enjoyed the transfers between the resorts. All and all this was a great vacation and would absolutely return. the only downside was the airplanes fly over many times daily and they are loud, but still neat to see them fly over since they are so low.

This was our first trip to both Jamaica and also to a Sandals resort. We went for a week in April with some friends and family for our daughter's wedding. It was a wonderful trip, and we had a wonderful time. I had read all the reviews beforehand, so it was actually pretty much as I expected. I do have to admit that I was a little let down by the quality of some of the amenities, but I do understand that it is an older resort, and it was really fine.

The good and the not so good:

We arrived by 9 a.m. and were fortunate enough to be in our room before 10, which was wonderful. We stayed on the third floor of the Palms building and had a beautiful view of the ocean. The room was fine and the bed was comfortable - nothing special but clean and nice enough. For us, an ocean front view with a balcony is more important than the size of our room because we like to spend time sitting on the balcony throughout the day reading, watching the sunset, coffee in the morning, etc. This was a good spot; however, the beach below does get noisy with the games and the music, and between that and the very loud planes, it was not restful or peaceful during certain times of the day, especially if you wanted to nap or read. Most reviewers say they are not bothered by the noisy planes, but I have to say that we did find it very loud and a little annoying, and it does detract from the overall ambiance (although the quick trip to and from the airport is fabulous.)

We did enjoy the food and drink - almost everything we had here was really great and we enjoyed all the different dining options. We also enjoyed the ala carte breakfast upstairs on the days it was offered - very nice ambiance and great breeze. We got great service from everyone and found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful, a real pleasure.

We enjoyed the swim up pool bar, and the hot tub there is a nice place to watch the sun set. I also used the fitness room and the equipment in there was very good, although there was never any staff in there. The beach was nice, and the ocean was very calm and easy to swim in. (the water in Cancun is prettier but usually too rough). We did have to become chair towel hogs, which I don't like to do, but that's how it is here if you want a place to sit in the shade and don't have a butler.

One big disappointment - we were in Jamaica and were hoping to hear some good reggae type music - they didn't really have that. they played mostly pop music. I guess you have to go off the resort for that, but we didn't. The entertainment here was actually a little odd sometimes. My daughter did have a Mento band play for her wedding though, and they were great. (The wedding was at the Sandals Royal Caribbean, and it was beautiful and the staff there did a great job, really wonderful.) One other disappointment, although we knew about it beforehand, is that if you don't have a butler or concierge room you don't get room service or alcohol or snacks in your room. I love having coffee and juice in the morning on my balcony, and having to make it in the little room coffee pot isn't really what I want when I'm on vacation...but at least the tap water is good.

So all in all, we had a great week, enjoyed ourselves, met many nice people (it was reunion week and the resort was filled with returnees, quite a fun-loving bunch of people!). It was a great trip and we were sad to leave. However, would I return to Sandals Montego Bay - probably not - it's just the little things that, because of the high cost of this resort, I would probably look elsewhere next trip to Jamaica.

I am recently back from a short stay at Sandals MoBay. While I am not a fan of MoBay in general, this resort is a nice introduction to the island and a solid choice for those who like their vacations on the lively side and can ignore the constant planes taking off and landing at the adjacent MBJ Airport.

Sandals MoBay shines most brightly for it's fine staff, a really nice group of people who truly seem to enjoy their jobs. Constant smiles and greetings were always offered by any staff member I encountered and I suspect it is the special vibe at this resort that draws so many repeat guests.

This resort has some nice new features such as the new spa and gym. I do wish the saunas were not just out in the open as there is nowhere to store your stuff so it is not very convenient. I did use the whirlpool in this area which was always quiet and private.

Food was generally very good, from the bountiful breakfast buffet with Jamaican specialties to the ala carte options I was able to try. I was disappointed that we could not get into Cucina Romana as we were told we did not need reservations when we tried to make them. Then, upon arrival,at the restaurant, we were told that we did need reservations and could not get in that evening at all. Lesson learned.

The grounds are nicely kept and the vibe at this place is active and fun. I am not a fan of games and such but there were lots who were and they were having a great time at the beer drinking contest and other events that took place around the resort throughout the day. This is a resort for the young and young at heart.

At the repeaters dinner, there was a solo artist who was very good and other live music I heard throughout the resort was also quite good.

There is a pretty wedding chapel on property which is a lovely location for private ceremony.

The beach at this resort is long and somewhat narrow and there were plenty of chairs to go around, though finding one in the shade was a bit difficult at peak times.

Rooms in the Deluxe (basic) category were a decent size with a small patio and beds were comfy. Mine was pretty noisy day and night and they need to replace the weather stripping around the doors as light, heat and rain all came in at various points. There was a large visible gap between the frame and the door and soundproofing overall was not very good.

The play at 3 feature makes this resort nice for longer stays as guest can enjoy the facilities of Sandals Carlye and Sandals Royal Caribbean.

This was our fifth trip to Montego Bay and as always, we enjoyed ourselves. We meet other friends there and it's quite special. The entertainment could be more professional and the sports director needs to have new cans of tennis balls on sight. Your staff is wonderful and we love hearing their stories and sharing our lives with them.

Room Tip: Walk-out rooms are so convenient. We love the rooms close to the activities so we don't have to...
