Since the Aquarium is in the Maca Bana resort out past the airport, we took a day trip to see how to get there and the parking situation. When you think you are at the airport, the road continues to a roundabout. Continue through the roundabout, around the curve and the Maca Bana is on the right a short distance (about 500 meters).
After entering, there are about 10 spaces on a very sharp incline next to the restaurant. There is also space along the road if the spaces are full.
Wine area - That caught our eyes with their glass-enclosed display with the different countries and regions labeled. We did not have wine, but the display was impressive to us.
The staff was friendly but okay with service. Greeted and sat promptly, we saw about four other tables. Interesting how 80% of the guests are on their cell phones constantly :) Several staff members appear to work together to get drinks, take orders, and bring the food. What we found unusual: (1) a server had to come back since one of the items was no longer available, (2) the servers did not clean the dirty table next to us for our time there, (3) no one checked back to see how the meal was until time to clear the table and we had nothing to drink.
The food is what makes the place. One article stated that it has the best kitchen on the island. To that, we agree. Everything we ate was among the best flavors AND presentations that we experienced during our stay. Different takes on indigenous and traditional dishes make the grade for taste. We opted for the catch of the day and a vegetarian Aquarium Taster. Both excellent! I'm still impressed how they made an ordinary side garden salad look so pretty.
Recommendation - do NOT eat lunch the day you go to the Aquarium. That was our downfall. We were not that hungry and wanted to try some of their seafood combinations and desserts. Another time...
The view - since it was dark we could not see too much but could hear the water. The ambiance is dim with much wooden surfaces. Comfortable seating and an adorable black and white cat!
