We were at the Grand Palladium Resort and Spa, which is the lower end property of the 4 hotels under the Grand Palladium name. First, the pros: The property was beautiful and well-maintained overall. The beach was only a 2 minute walk and we could use the pools in the other hotels (which were smaller and quieter, aka fewer kids, than ours) although we did spend most of our pool time in the pool at our place. The ala carte restaurants were wonderful and we could go to almost any one of them any time. We ate ala cart 4 times of the 7 nights we were there. The help is great and, although there is a bit of a language barrier at times, we had a good time with everyone we met. Drinks were excellent and free-flowing. Beach was clean. Mini-bar was filled daily and fresh water was always available.

Now, the cons: The room, while adequate, was very warm. They set the A/C so you could not change it. It ran at 25 centigrade at all times. The ceiling fan helped a bit. There was very little water pressure at times and the last night it took 45 minutes to get 5" of lukewarm water into the whirlpool. Our pillows smelled like mildew and the pillowcases did not fit over the entire pillow. My biggest complaint about the room was that on the first day the blow dryer quit - it actually started to melt and there was smoke coming from it. It could NOT be unplugged as the cord went into the wall. I set it away from anything that might catch fire and informed the front desk. It was never fixed. We told them 4 times verbally and 2 times in a written manner. Once, 2 men came to look at it and said it was okay. I started it up and it smoked again. Never did get one that worked. We also had to ask for soap and shampoo as it had not been replaced by the 3rd day. Last, the main buffet food was not good. The meat was very tough and most of the other food was lukewarm if not cold. Some of the sterno was actually off the pans even early in the evening. Lines for omelets often ran to 15-20 minutes and it was not their priority to refill empty trays quickly.

The ala carte restaurants often had waits of 2 hours, as we were told no reservations could be made, but then asked it we had reservations when we got to the restaurant. Hmmm. We finally figured out that it you go very early in the evening, no problem. But if you try to go after 7 pm - you might be eating about 9pm.

That being said, we did have a great time and would go again but I would bring my own hair dryer and eat early!

Wonderful family vacation. This is the first review I've ever written and have been travelling yearly for the last 13 years, this resort ticked off all the boxes, and I felt it was worth writting about. Spent a week at the Grand Palladium Punta Cana with our 2 children ages 9 & 11 (the kids first trip). Booked our trip with Thomas Cook vacations, a 2 bedroom family suite, it's worth the extra money. We had the most amazing view, directly beach front, huge suite, adjoining room with the kids, they each had their own bed, and everyone had enough space to wind down at the end of the day. Rooms were always clean, stocked with fresh towel daily and the mini bar fridge was stocked daily was well. The complex itself is massive, however getting around is no problem at all. You can jump on one of the trains and it will take you where you need to go. The resort itself is well laid out and everything is in close proximety. From our building 3000's, in front was the beach, to one side was a pool, and behind us was the buffet and main pool, all within minutes. Finding chairs was never a problem, either at the beach or pool. Food quality and variety was excellent, we ate at the beach buffet for lunch, burgers, fries, hot dogs, sandwiches, you usual lunch time fare, all good. Evenings we ate at the main buffet, every night was a different theme, but always had the staples, pizza, pasta and something called American corner suited for the meat and patatoes kind of people. I have a fussy eater and he had no problem finding food to eat, pizza, pasta, patato, rice, breads, and of course ice cream. We chose not to try the a la cartes on this trip. Pools were clean and well kept, bars at both pools including swim up bars, service was excellent, no big wait times. Bars along the beach as well. Beach is beautiful, but we all know that. Nightly entertainment at the theater and live music in the lobby aslways gave you a place to go at night. We've been to Punta Cana 5 times, and this resort ranks # 1 on our list. If you're travelling as a family or as a couple, I would recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Room blocks 2000, 3000, 4000 are on the beach, we had 3132 which is beach front.

Went in April 2011 and it was a two couples trip, shared a room to save some money. It was our very first trip down south and Punta Cana was amazing. We got a standard double room on the first floor (forgot which building) and it was alright. Room wasn't too bad, but lots of tiny ants and we had to spray bug repellent. The only reason why they were in the room was because we had sweets and drinks and it attracted ants. Shower stall is tiny and bathroom sliding door was not aligned so it kept breaking. Room could have been better if we were on a higher floor.

Front desk was somewhat slow, we had to ask twice for towels and more water and never got them. We ended up asking the cleaning lady/man who refills the bar fridge ourselves. Food is great! Actually enjoyed eating at the buffets (especially the one called El Behique and Las Torres in the Palace resort), good cooks and lots of selection! Mangoes are my fave fruit and they were extremely sweet and tasty! Mostly ate at the buffets because we ate dinner pretty late and most a la carte restaurants' last call was at 9 PM. The Japanese restaurant (teppanyaki) was decent, but the Spanish restaurant wasn't too good..

The beach is AMAZING!!! White sandy beach with clear blue water... couldn't ask for more! I would love to go back only for that! We participated in some stingray and snorkeling, and outdoor adventure (drove mini dirty cars in a planned track. was dangerous though because one car caught on fire because of the poor maintenance of cars, luckily it wasn't ours, but prepare to get dirty in mud and sand!!) activities outside of the resort. We love volleyball and playing beach volleyball was pretty fun in the blazing sun.The bartender at the Punta Cana site (Manuel) was amazing and he made it feel very welcoming. The energy and the politeness of the workers made our experience a better one!

Resort was great, but would like to try other resorts when we visit Punta Cana again!

Room Tip: Request for higher floors

This was our first time in punta Cana and we loved the beach. White sand and beautiful bluish-green water. We were in the 3000 building and our room was ok, I was expecting more. The shower had no water pressure. Over all the room was clean and our mini fridge was stocked daily. The shows started at 10pm which was too late for my kids. Not much to do after dinner with the kids. We did enjoy the train ride around the resorts. Food was ok, with 2 buffet restaurants and many a la carts which we didn't use because it was first come first serve and most of the time it was a one hour wait. My husband didn't like the fact that he had to wear long pants to the a la carte restaurants since he was on vacation. Free wifi in the lobby.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms in the four thousand building
