Was in the Santo Domingo for the weekend. Chose this place because of location and modest price. I'm partial to the Gazcue section and this place is right off the corner of Ave Independencia!
This place has always seem to be an enigma, because the location is great! Yet, not well regarded or reviewed! Perhaps because of a haunting bad review from years ago!!!
Hotel is fairly big. Staff is so-so and perhaps in need of customer service training! They're not bad but lack enthusiasm. My room was on the newer side. Small, but clean with well fuctioning a/c and refrigerator and antiquated room safe! Good wi-fi! The door locks seem to be ancient and initially difficult to manuever!
My only gripe was the bed was too small and it was wedged between two nitetables! One turnover in bed during sleep guarantees contact with an end table! So sleep stationary!
For the hotel to "Include free breakfast" as a perk to your stay is insulting! It is sooo unappealing it dissuades you from ever attempting to eat anything else at the Hotel!! They allegedly have a restaurant there! Plus, my favorite eatery "Villa Hermanos" is literally one block away!
If you are on a budget, This is the place to stay. Jaragua casino (when reopened) about 3 blocks away. Zona Colonial about 15 min walk. Adult clubs 1 block away! Manolo's restaurant 3 blks!
Hadn't been in this area for 6 yrs and the street climate at nite seems to be a little more scarier (or i have grown older and more paranoid) So any walk at night, solo, longer than 2 blocks. i would say unadvisable!
Overall a good place for a short stay!

This small hotel is in a good location: gazcue neighborhood and in the independence street, easy to find.

Pool is small, rooms are ok.

My complaint is about food. They serve you they self in small portion. I asked the waiter to give a little bit more, just smile and nothing else.

Wifi connection is great: 6mb download and 2mb upload.

The rooms are in very bad conditions, dirty, with mold, no mini-bar, and they smell bad of course. The swimming pool is very small and not so clean kept. No elevators. The hotel is very old and not well conserved. Service is terrible in general. They only have soap in bathrooms, no shampoo or conditioner. TV is ok. Air Condition is ok. Phone is ok. Wifi is so so. Forget about room service. Nothing is true according for what they sell for in fliers and websites.

If you are on a budget, this is a safe, economical hotel. But be aware it is a 20 minute walk from the Colonial center, partly through questionable streets that aren't safe at night. There are always taxis near by so you don't need to take the risk.

The rooms are ok but there are doors leading to other rooms and there is often noise late. The breakfast staff is not friendly and they don't come to you to take your order. The food is average and expensive. The pool is sometimes quite dirty. Many low class clients stay at this hotel and party in the pool area with the music at top volume (think of rappers with tank tops and big golden chains in the pool). Then the pool remains extremely dirty for a long time.
