“Great location, not so good for self catering”
Reviewed 19 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

Very well located cottage in the Roseau Valley. Recently built, and well fitted in a minimalistic sort of way. The inside lighting is very dim.

Clearly the cottage had been built when the restaurant was still running and as such there are no self catering facilities apart from a coffee maker (makes hot water) and fridge.

For those that want to keep a rein on their costs this may be a problem but as we were only there for 4 nights and we had a reasonable meal in the restaurant on one of them it was an issue but we managed (bread and cheese on the others...)

However I would not have booked if I had realised beforehand.

Sabine and Marco are very nice people and helpful.

The sun goes down at 1800 and there is not much to do in the rain forest apart from listen to the tree frogs and the pouring rain.

Dear John, I'm very sorry to read about your disappointment. It is very important for me that all of our guests are satisfy and I'm trying my best to do so. However it is always a challenge to please everybody. If you carefully read the description of my cottage, you should see that there is no stove, but only a fridge, coffee/tea maker and a sink. Most of my guests are having breakfast and dinner in my restaurant, where I always treat them with healthy, fresh and homemade cuisine. For those who are on a tight budget, they can always visit small local bars around the villages close by.
Of course, Dominica is not for everybody, especially not for those suffering from hip or legs problems, since Dominica is a hiker destination and you better be fit to explore it !
You are the first guest complaining about the lighting in the cottage : there is sufficient light in the bedroom to read (unless you have eye problems) and the living room has just a very cozy lighting to make guests feel relaxed and comfortable. Most of my guests do appreciate the sound of the tree frogs and crickets, since this is a nature destination ! The rain, the frog and cricket "concert" makes Dominica so beautiful ! For those looking for noisy and busy nightlife, Dominica is definitely not the place to be. Again, sorry for your disappointment, but next time read the description of the place you would like to go to before booking carefully. But at least you enjoyed our shower !

“How to relax and eat well in the Roseau Valley, Dominica”

We spent 3 nights in this comfortable cottage, which is perched on the side of a lush river valley. Just like being in a treehouse! The spacious veranda offered a breezy spot to read in a hammock or watch the hummingbirds as they darted about in nearby flowers.

Breakfasts and dinners were simply wonderful - everything was fresh, healthy & homemade. Pizzas, made from scratch by Marco, were presented piping hot from a wood-fired oven. Meals were served on a cosy, open-air terrace, lit up at night by Sabina's unique hand-crafted calabash sconces.

Owners, Sabina and Marco, were welcoming and attentive. We very much enjoyed our time with them. If you find yourself in the beautiful Roseau Valley, you should definitely plan a stay at Sunshine Cottage.
