Genuine local atmosphere. Unless you're going to cook you probably won't buy much, (except perhaps a few souvenirs) but it's definitely worth the visit.

the spot to get your fresh vegetables and fruits. Fresh flowers such as lilies and local plants can be picked up there especially on Saturdays.

Roseau's waterfront and the area surrounding Old Market Square are colorful and authentic--probably the least spoiled capital city left in the Caribbean Islands. (There is no vulgar gated cruise port at the harbor with obscene chain stores like Diamonds Intl, Columbian Gems, etc.) We found the compact and low-rise cityscape to be wildly varied with architecture ranging from old wood structures with filagree balconies to the no less decorative cement buildings ubiquitous in the Caribbean...all maintained to various degrees. Some Dominicans set up tents under which to sell their wares while others put merchandise on tables out on the irregular sidewalks (where they existed). People were very friendly, and we bought a number of souvenir items like T-shirts, mugs, and hats after some mild bargaining. But our experience with the native crafters was that they were proud, unwilling to negotiate, and we had to respect that. Since we found Roseau to be one of only a few port cities on our 15-island cruise where the emphasis wasn't on crass commercialism, it earned a *very* special place in our hearts.

This is the place to buy souvenirs such as refrigerator magnets, painted tiles, hats and T-shirts. It's the typical cruise-ship port offering.

This is an interesting area and the stalls only really come out if there are cruise ships in. Great old cobbled square and pavments which are really uneven, so watch your footing. Felt most of the stalls were selling similar tourist items but did not see anyone buying anyjthing. Look for the Slave Market buiding which was amazing and full of history.
Fort Young Hotel nearby has some better jewellery stores. Did not ask for any of the prices so cannot comment on value. People selling here just seem to eke out a living.
People were friendly and courteous.
