We've been here in beginning of March and despite having read on lonely planet that it would be too crowded it really wasn't. Water was crystal clear and underneath it was spectacular. Some people wrote about some security concerns because there are no people looking at the cave but at least during our swim some cubans with some safety equipment were there. Best thing to do in Varadero if you are bored of beaches.

This place was beautiful. The water is a bit cool but not bad at all.
You dont have to take the jeep safari to go here. We hired a cab and he waited for us. If you do go on your own dont bother with the Cuban guy in the cave. He will be all nice to you and as you leave stop you to bum clothing or money. He even asked my husband for the sunglasses he was wearing! This guy and the lifeguard are working together. Just brush him off and keep walking. If he offers you anything, don’t take it.
