This was a second visit to this hotel. There is a mall as part of the property. Mercado, pharmacy, cafeteria familia (with great meal deals), clothing shops.
The property is large. Have stayed in both the hotel and the bungalows. Loved the spacious apartment with a balcony overlooking the pools. The buffet breakfast is well stocked and of course there is the omelette chef!!! The staff leave a little to be desired but really like the location.

We arrived at this hotel as our first destination in Cuba. There was a dawning realisation that the room had not been cleaned after the last guests. Dirty towels, empty water bottles and full rubbish bins were a bit of a clue but we were a little jet lagged.
We asked for clean towels but none appeared until late the following day. Only after we got into bed did I wonder if that had been changed. There was no point in even thinking about it then....
Food, buildings and facilities were all poor - leaking coffee urns, tired buffets and lack of information (or false info) from hotel staff all combined to give a (hopefully) forgettable experience.

We stayed here for 5 days at the beginning of our trip, it’s an ok place, staff are lovely and it’s good for a base! Bit far from Havana (hour) but the history of it is very interesting. We stayed in the bungalows which are huge. With a little work this could be really beautiful (it is in own right) the breakfast was good and the omelette chef fantastic. Bed comfy. We had no hot water for 4 of the days, but that seems to be country wide. The whole downside of this hotel was the pizzeria- 1 hour 20 mins wait for 2 pizzas and a risotto, table seated after us got their food before us??? Wasn’t busy just poor service! And then it was wrong?? We were the only English people there. 1 Pool had algae in it, hence green water, the other was fine!

I was with a largish group from the US and we were supposed to stay in the main building. After finding no hot water we were all moved to bungalows for the 2nd and 3rd night. The newer section of bungalows were nice, but while the older section had hot water there was dark mold in the grout, the tub was brown and there were 2cm gaps in the balcony doors that let mosquitos and little black flies in (was woken up and bitten both nights). The breakfast was good. They often ran out of money at the exchange window. Actually, the first day we arrived and there was no money so we had 36 people with no local currency and instead of a casual arrival we spent the afternoon at a currency exchange.

After spending a couple nights away we returned to discover that there was still no hot water in the main building and they wanted to re-arrange the rooms (without talking to us ahead of time) and put some who had paid a single supplement into the same apartment where they would have their own room, but would need to share a bathroom and living area. Again, this was done without talking to the operations people for our tour.

The new bungalows might be 4 star, but the rest of the facilities are far from that.

Room tip: Ask for the new bungalow or be prepared for cold water only.

During out vacation in Cuba the first half of January 2018 we stayed in 6 different
hotels. Twice we stayed at the Comodoro, in different bungalow units ( 2 story walk-up, one bedroom suite type). The bungalows are supposed to be the upgraded part of the "hotel".
The Comodoro certainly takes the cake as the worst of the 6 hotels.
Of course there was the missing water again for one day, a common complaint ( no shower, no flushing toilets, no washing hands etc.).
There were newer wall A/C units in the bedroom only. If you turn the A/C in the bedroom to a very low temperature, the other rooms will get somewhat cool as well.
The cleaning of the bathrooms is atrocious and mold and mildew as well as dirt abounded in both units. Some photos were uploaded.
There is no beach, only an old concrete containment with sea water crashing across
the seawall and no swimmers.
There is some demolition of a portion of the hotel along the ocean, but it is overgrown with weeds and no construction is ongoing.
The food for breakfast, a buffet , is rather limited and usually gone near the end of the breakfast period. If you want to eat, come when the doors open at 7:00 a.m.
There are two restrooms in the lobby and they also serve the restaurants. During the two week period in question they were blocked off. You had to go through a "bussines center" storage room to access a different set of dilapidated restrooms.
These restrooms did not have toilet seats (common in Cuba, but not normal in a Cuban hotel), did not have toilet paper and could not be flushed.
You can imagine the smell and disgusting conditions of the couple of stalls.
How the restaurant personnel wash their hands before preparing and serving the food is unknown.
The real problem at the Comodoro is not that it is in Cuba, because other hotels do at least a passable job and there is enough personnel on site.
The problem is clearly the management.

Room tip: Bungalows have newer A/C wall units, serve bedroom only.
