Whilst the Hostal's location is fantastic, being adjacent to the beautiful Plaza Vieja, with its bars and restaurants, it comes with a downside! Noise!!! We spent a total of 4 nights in room 1, which is a nice 'mini suite' at the front of the hostal, right above restaurant and the sound of a great, but very loud Cuban band, who play through til midnight every night! So when added to the general noise of customers dining, makes it very difficult for sleeping! It doesn't help when the restaurant staff arrive at c5.30 to perepare for the day, and take delivery of supplies, that arrive on barrows with metal wheels, that resonate across the cobbled streets! Matters are made worse by room 1 having the noisiest fridge ever, that sounds more like an industrial grinder!! Finally, please understand that the hotel charges 3 CUC for the coffee capsules that you make your early morning coffee with! Works out pretty expensive, as we foudn to our cost! Despite all of that, the location makes up for everything, but pack your earplugs!!!

If you like Cuba music, you will enjoy it from your hotel window from 10 am till midnight, but for us who had jetlag and have been sick, it was terrible. Live music just downstairs NON-Stop. The room has no ventilation, so smelles little bit. The breakfast was ok but not so fresh vege and fruits. The staffs were very friendly and helpful.

We’re just back from a fabulous stay at Conde de Ricla in the heart of the old city. Yaima and her team were warm and friendly offering an excellent service with recommendations of what to do and where to eat.
I would recommend this hostel to anyone staying in Havana, the plaza has got something for everyone and is in a good location.

Situated just off Vieja plaza small centrally located, stairs leading off a busy street of restaurants in Old Town. All the sights are within 15 minutes walk and plenty of good bars, music and restaurants.

The downside is that there is noise in early mornings with water trucks delivering and the restaurants opening.

Friendly staff, breakfast on the roof was OK not great.

Note they do count the towels but it’s all clean

Room tip: Ask for room at the front the bac is over Resturant kitchen

Read the reviews and thought it would be a good choice. Our room looked onto the square and seemed clean and tidy. Then I tried to get some sleep and it was here where it all went wrong. Firstly, the idiotic design of the doorbell being so loud that EVERY room can hear it. Secondly the idiotic idea that we can't have keys to the front door so that any time any one get back after midnight the whole place is woken up by the blaring siren of a doorbell. Thirdly the salsa bar restaurant downstairs doesn't close until 2am most nights and has tropical music on the whole time. I didn't sleep a wink which meant I didn't give a crap about any of the good stuff of this hostel. If you dare sleep there you better make sure you are a heavy sleeper or request a room in the back.
