Over the years we have stayed at Buddy Dive about six times. They have excellent diving facilities and a very convenient "drive thru" area for picking up full tanks. The house reef is very good for night dives and the view from the restaurant can't be beat.

Room Tip: Get at least one boat dive with Murfin (?sp) to Klein Bonaire. The man knows how to find seahorses!

My husband came here with friends to do a lot of diving for a week and then I brought our 3 children and we stayed another 6 nights. I enjoyed the diving here because of the ease of just getting in right from the dock in front of the dive shop. I also liked that they have just single boat dives and were always back within 2 hours (important for me as we were always leaving kids with our sitter). I am a novice diver and really enjoyed what I saw. My husband would agree with some of the other reviews about there not being much fish/ sea creatures in the water anymore. I didn't have any complaints on the diving.

From the perspective of a parent, this was a great place for the kids. Not in the sense that they provided much entertainment but more that there were things to explore, sand to sit in, pools to swim in, fish to look at from the dock, and lizards hanging out on the rocks by the road. I felt pretty comfortable letting our 6 year old walk meander around on her own to find her grandmother at the restaurant or her dad down on the dock or whatever. The pool that is closer to the dive shop was wonderful for our little kids. There was a large area of shallow water that our 22 month old loved to walk around in. This led off to a deeper area that the 3 and 6 year old enjoyed practicing their swimming skills. Our 6 year old did three days of the Buddy Rangers classes and LOVED it. She went sightseeing around the island one day (we recreated her trip so the rest of us could see it all the next day!). She swam and did arts/crafts and also got to try swimming in the pool and the ocean with her own little BCD/air tank that didn't allow her to submerge fully but let her practice breathing with a regulator. (I think they called it SASY).
With our package we had a rental truck. For those traveling with kids, just FYI that there were only seat belts in the front driver and passenger seats and then the back seats by the windows but not the center back seat. Having three kids and traveling with 2 boosters and a carseat, we quickly realized we weren't going to be able to buckle everyone up as we had thought - just something to think about if planning any traveling with young kids. We went to town one evening for dinner and ended up with a flat tire and a flat spare. The resort sent someone to get us so that worked out ok but my husband had a truck the week he was alone and it also had a flat, so be aware.

The breakfast was a buffet and was good and we ended up eating most other meals at the restaurant which was good too. Should you be celebrating a birthday, let them know. Instead of a candle they put something more like a flare in our dessert which was very exciting. :)

Diving facilities are excellent as well as all the people that work on the Dive Shop, diving couldn´t be easier! As for the property it needs a lot of updating and care. The pool chairs are soooo old, the road, curb and gardens are all average and nothing is really clean, just average clean. We stayed in one of the newly renovated rooms and everything was just OK but not necessarily nice, for example the patio furniture is broken and also dirty, the kitchen has the minimum supplies you´ll need. The personnel at the resort is all very nice and helpful and always smiling which is quite nice. If you´re looking for an excellent diving experience this place is great but the rest is just OK, not good and not bad! Enjoy!

Room Tip: Second floor is much better and ask for ocean view. Ask also for a room that doesn´t get the noise o...

OK, enough people have written about Buddy Dive report. It certainly delivers what is promised: professional diving, easy to access house reef, and decent rooms and food (not luxury, but nice).
The problem is that there is not very much fish left in Bonaire. The reefs are overall lifeless. Why? Ask the biologists, but seeing locals fishing on the house reef may be a symptom.

This also applies to our dive trip to St Lucia (Anise Chastanet), by the way. The same problem there: local spear fishers divine 3 feet outside of the (pathetically small) "nature reserve.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor: otherwise, you may hear someone else dragging their gear all evening
