I stayed in the Divi for one night in November. They were under renovation but overall it was a bit disappointing. My first room stenched of cigarette smoke and my second room had pasta and sand in both the bathroom and kitchen sinks. The rooms are nicely appointed and have great views but could use to be cleaner. The resort charges $10 per night for a crib. They are the first hotel I've seen do that out of about 10 hotels in which I've stayed with my baby. I waited for about half an hour at the pool bar until finally deciding to leave without a drink in hand. The resort is poorly signposted. I wouldn't stay here again. There are better choices on the island.

My husband and I stayed here last spring and complete love this island! We stayed in the old part (the tower) and was reading all the reviews about the slow elevator and quite frankly, that was not a big deal to us! For the points the old tower was a great place to stay. We loved it even though the weather was not the best! We were there when the "upper level disturbance" came thru and caused lots of seaweed on the beach all week but it did not effect us much. We rented a car for 2 days and enjoyed touring the other parts of the island! The best beach other than the one by our resort is " Havannah Beach" ! Beautiful sunsets and sailboats with peaceful oceans even with the rough seas we had all week!
We are joggers and felt completely safe at this island! We would leave early in the morning and get back around 11ish! We "beached it" every day and walked up the ocean front walkway every evening to enjoy dinner! "Gilligan's" was great! We will return again and hopefully next time we will get the promise - "it never rains in ARUBA!"
This will probably be our best island ever even thou this year we are going to try our luck in Barbados!
Love this resort and all the things you are doing to improve it! Keep the old tower as it is a great place to visit and get all the amendities of a new resort! TOTALLY LOVE THIS AND IT IS TRULY " ONE HAPPY ISLAND!"

You cannot go wrong with a stay at the Divi Phoenix! Me, my husband, five year-old daughter and my best friend stayed in a three-bedroom penthouse for a week and were very pleased. Check in was smooth, even on a busy Saturday. We arrived at 2 and check in is at 4, so they allowed us to take our luggage up to the room, which was still being cleaned. We went back up at 4 and they were just finishing. The room was clean, well-kept, except for some dings on the stairs (to be excpected when you have to carry your luggage up a spiral staircase!) and the coverings on the barstools were very worn, looks like people sat in them with wet swimsuits?! The bedrooms were nice and big, all three had king beds. We were surprised though that the master had the smallest bathroom, it didn't have a balcony like one of the other bedrooms and the view was of the back of the property and not the nice sea/pool view. It was fine though, as we spent little time in there except to sleep. The bathrooms were nice, all three were full with showers and the one downstairs had a big jetted tub, although we couldn't figure out how to turn it on! The kitchen was huge and had plenty of empty cupboard space for your groceries, something I always complain about! (do your shopping at Ling and Sons - beautiful store) The washing machine/dryer combo is nice, although the directions are in spanish. You can easily figure it out though.

The grounds were clean, the pools were nice and PureBeach was a great place to hangout. The beach was nice, but you had to get down there early, like 6am, to get a palapa. After walking up the boardwalk, looking at the other hotel beaches, I was pleased we were staying at the Divi. The other beaches were crowded with chaises and since the beach was deeper you were much farther away from the water and would have to shimmy (excuse me, excuse me) your whole way.

Some of the things we did on the island we recommend: We had dinner Passions, down at the Amsterdam and it was perfect - right on the beach, so romantic! It did start to rain while we were eating, but the servers immediately came over and picked up the whole table, settings and all, and moved it under a palapa for us. We took the Atlantis Submarine tour - wonderful, but I did get a little seasick as the sub was sitting on top of the water. Spent a beautiful morning at Baby Beach - get there early and rent a couple of chaise lounges. If you get there before 10am you will have your choise of palapas.

We definitely recommend this hotel and can't wait to go back!

We just returned from the Divi Pheonix and it was truly a mixed bag of a beautiful property, touch and go service and some really gaps in offerings.

The good - the property is pretty much complete and the new pools, bar and rooms are very nice. Unfortunately, the eye sore constructed on top of the swim up bar blocks the view from rooms below 4th or 5th floor - a real problem for new owners. Maintenance gets the thumbs up for courtesy and efficiency.

The bad - cleaning staff, simply put. They come each day and drop towels - sometimes they take the trash out, sometimes not and when you have your mid-week cleaning, it's only linens. Forget wiping counters, cleaning bathroom it doesn't happen. Just awful to have to clean yourself on vacation!

The other stuff - activities are almost non-existant and forget stuff for the kids unless they play bingo or do an occasions 15 minute game. The activites staff are not friendly and seem as though it's a chore to be there. Since removing the yummy lunch deli, there's only a sit down restraunt and nothing within easy walking distance except the Westin next door. A real bummer if you don't want to drive or eat in your room every day.

New housekeeping staff and activities person coupled with additional dining options and maybe a shop or two would help greatly.

January 2010--

Scheduled Weeks two and three.

Week One--- In Old time Share Tower Unit 401 One Bedroom unit.

Oldest unit in the resort. Had no problems checking in, and was very happy to see the friendly staff at the front desk: Avril, Keisha, Gloria, Aurita, Rosy, and others who were very kind to us and from whom I learned a lot of Papiamento. The new lobby and surrounding grounds are beautiful and the new pools, restaurant and swim- up bar are great. Daily activities on site are well planned, with something to do for everyone. There were some upgrades to our unit, in the bedroom and deck area. Unfortunately, after day two, we had condensation dripping from the ceiling Air Conditioning system in the hallway between our bedroom and the bathroom, which could not be fixed after a couple days and calls to maintenance and the front desk. We wanted to give them every reasonable opportunity to fix the problem, but after the third maintenance call, we were offered an opportunity to be moved into the new building for the balance of our stay. I think more attention needs to be given to the older timeshare units, especially since the new units are finished, to bring the old units close to the same level as the newer units, especially in the kitchen and bathroom areas.

Week Two--- Moved in New Timeshare Tower Room 483, One Bedroom Unit.

Fantastically beautiful and cleaner than the old timeshare unit we left. Updated kitchen with dishwasher with island counter, jacuzzi in one bathroom, wide showers, and single unit washer/dryer. Nice view of the pool area and restaurant from our deck. Wish we could this unit again next year, but we will be back to our old unit. I am sure it will be in better shape for us next time.

Favorite Restaurants:

Chalet Suisse. The Chateaubriand for two is not to be missed. Great Service. Reservations are a must! It gets very busy late.

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse-- Sad disappointment. 2 orders out of 4 from our table sent back, one overcooked, [ Portabello Mushroom entree] one undercooked, {Fillet Mignon-medium well]. No compensation, no apology or offer to fix the mistake. They are resting on their past laurels. Take it or leave it oblivious attitude of staff is discouraging.

Gianni's Restaurant- Excellent Italian food. Great service, and very kind and accommodating staff. Veal items were delicious, and well prepared.

Hooters- Decent food, reasonable prices, friendly staff, but the quality of some food items is slipping, especially on boneless chicken wings.

Sunset Beach Restaurant--Divi Phoenix Great on the beach dining experience. Reservations are a must, especially at sunset. Go on the Special Lobster night, lobster out of the shell and surf and turf are highly recommended.

Hard Rock Cafe- Fun place, with great food and music. Ate there three times, Salads, Burgers, and Quesedillas are great.

Casinos- Pretty tight for us.

Favorites: Hyatt, ( Catherine and Henry we very nice to us, as well as Gregory.) Crystal, ( Janice and Richelle on the staff really welcomed us back. )
Airport Departure Casino new for us.

We lost more than we won, but we had a fun time at the above places.

Attractions: Butterfly Farm, Downtown Oranjestad, Fort Zoutman, Tuesday Bon Bini Festival, Alto Vista chapel.

We cannot wait until next year to return.
