Honeymoon

Review of Barceló Aruba
4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 17 Feb 2017via mobile
I was very impressed with this resort! Very clean, extremely helpful and friendly staff. The restaurants were all excellent! If I had to complain about anything it would be that there are only 2 bars on the resort (lobby and pool) and the open dining hours are a bit restricted. I love the fact that you can leave the resort without being with a tour and be safe! Can't wait to go back!

Dear thaiitulikeit,
First of all I would like to thank you for choosing our resort for your honeymonn, congratulations on your special occasion.
Second, thank you for sharing your experience with us. We work extremely hard to make sure all of our guests have a memorable experience.
Despite having two bars, we have 4 additional bars in each restaurant, wait service on the beach and the minibar in the room is stocked daily with refreshments and beer.
We look forward to host you again maybe for your anniversary.

Kind regards,

We visited Barcelo Aruba in early February 2017. I found the hotel and grounds to be nice , comfortable and clean. The service was good and our room was clean , we had plenty of towels and the bed was comfortable. I found the buffet options to be just average while the other dining option were quite good. Kyoto, the Japanese restaurant was very good and the service was commendable. The Italian and Seafood restaurants were also good and offered alfresco dining. There were however a few shortcomings. The lack of a bar to service the beach area puts a strain on the pool bar . Actually the pool and lobby are the only two places to get a drink . The buffet did run short on some items especially later in the serving time. No bacon one morning, out of hot dogs one day at lunch. I don't like to waste food but really thing it would not cost too much to put out a few pounds of bacon or hot dogs. And I can't believe you can't get a Bloody Mary or Mojito at the bars. They do offer Bloody Mary makings at the breakfast buffet but not at the bars. But I was surprised that they never had mint for Mojitos. The place is a bit small and that limits the number of palapa are available at the beach as well as loungers by the pool. Be prepared to get up before dawn to steak your claim. Overall we had a fun time and Barcelo Aruba offers a fair experience for the budget minded. For those looking for a higher end experience I might recommend skipping the all inclusive route.

Dear jppatchoski,
Thank you so much for your review.
Your feedback is extremely valuable to us as we aim to get better with each and every stay. Your observations will be discussed with our team as they provide great suggestions on areas of improvement. We have in the meantime started wait service for the beach area lifting so the strain on the pool bar service. We are sorry we ran out of mint, this is a herb we have to import and it can be somewhat tricky as production does not happen on the island. Our apologies. All in all, I am very happy none of these issues affected your comfort or enjoyment.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, and we look forward to seeing you again some day in the future.

Room was very nice clean.
Loved the beach very clean, walking the beach for miles was wonderful, can either walk on sidewalk or walk along the beach. The pool was nice relaxing, although people know the routine and claim chairs at 6am, so you snooze you loose. I loved the many different types of iguanas/lizards that sunbath on the rocks near the pool - nothing to be afraid of they just cool and lazy and interesting to watch!
Watch the drinks at the beach bar they are really powerful!
We did get to meet Cesar, the bartender at the Lounge bar, he is a very nice guy, he is very popular, we were sitting at the bar when a couple came in to say to hello to him, they were staying at another hotel but he left such an impression on them from previous vacation they came back to say hello.
He makes wonderful drinks have a Miami Vice - really good!
I wish I had asked more names, but the bartenders, wait staff, security guards, & housekeeping all wonderful happy people, never missed a chance to greet and say hello!
Food was ok, nothing too special, we ate at buffet morning and evening. We did eat at the Japanese, Italian, and Steak and seafood - Steak and seafood was very good, we had a waitress her name was Dani maybe? - she was very, very, hard working and sweet.
But I can honestly say we had all good experience with staff.
We had intentions of being a little more adventurous on our 5 day visit, but unfortunately we had not prepared for the intense sun on our 1st and did not properly lather on sunscreen on 1st day, so we didn't do as many activities in the sun as we had originally planned.
We did shop, walk, and check out the pool bar and local bars along the beach.
We also went on Inland morning fishing trip, with Arufishing.com, Mario was our fishing guide, we just went out from 7am to 10:30, something my husband really wanted to do.
We fished close to shore, which meant you could see bottom, so there was no getting seasick. Went with my husband and a father and his son - We all caught a lot of fish!
We shopped along the beach and across the street all very friendly people!
We did go with a large automotive group, the location was picked for us, so I guess you could say it was a business trip? But we were free to do whatever we wanted.
The weather was very warm and humid, but there was always a breeze - so don't worry too much about your hair, it probably wont stay in place, just go with it.

Dear suea672017,

Thank you so much for taking some time from your obviously busy schedule to share with us your experience here at our resort. We are so happy you had a wonderful time despite the fact that you had to get up at 6:30 am to get a palapa. There are enough lounge chairs the problem is there are limited amounts of palapas, therefor we have planted more palm trees to provide more shade. We are very happy you enjoyed our services, our restaurants, meeting Cesar and many of the other team members that work hard to make sure you have an enjoyable experience.
We look forward to host you again in the near future.

Overall, a very very good place to stay. We spent 10 days at the resort for our anniversary trip. The location is excellent. Best spot on Palm Beach in my opinion. Convenient to all restaurants and shopping and close enough to walk to both piers where the excursions depart. The rooms were super clean and comfortable. We wanted a king bed, but had two queen so,the staff came right up and put them together for us. Food was good always plenty of choices at the buffet and seating was always available. Staff is really friendly. We spend most of our time at the pool. We made sure that towels were in place by 6:45 am to get our seats. It is harder to get a great spot on the beach, but we were happy just walking down to swim. We ate at three of the special restaurants, the two best for us were the Italian and the Japanese. MINDY was a joy at the Kyoto. We heard people complaining about this or,that but honestly if you are expecting gourmet food at an all inclusive you are in the wrong place. Everything else was awesome and really Aruba in February should be enough for anyone. Great weather great people .

Room tip: Ask for the Deluxe Ocean view.

We just got home from our vacation in Aruba about 2 weeks ago and I'm still wishing we were there. I read so many reviews before we left that I was a little nervous about our trip. Thank goodness it was SO much better than any of the reviews we read. I'll start with our room. We booked the oceanfront jacuzzi room and it had an amazing view. The room was perfect. It was a lot larger than we expected and that was a very nice surprise. We didn't have any hot water our first day but we told the front desk and it was fine for the rest of our trip. I left a note asking for more water and they stocked us up very well.

I read several complaints about being able to get palapas on the beach before we went so we were prepared for having to sit by the pool. On our first morning we were up around 7 and there were several available palapas so my husband went down and put our stuff at one. It is true that you need to claim one in the morning. They were all taken by the time we got on the beach (probably around 9:30 or 10) We did the same thing on the one day we stayed by the pool. I felt like the pool area filled up faster than the beach, though. However, we were able to get chairs everyday.

When we arrived and went to make our reservations they told us we could only make 3 for our time there, which was fine. Once we got into the process, though, she let us make one for four nights. We were able to try all of the restaurants and found them all to be good. The Italian and Japanese were the best as far as food, but I loved our server at the Mexican restaurant. Fannie was her name and she was GREAT! The seafood restaurant was probably our biggest disappointment. We waited about an hour for our food and it was good but not worth the wait. For breakfast we ate at the buffet every morning and we both thought it was good. For lunch we tried both of the buffets and they were both okay. Not the best meal but definitely satisfying. We did walk to a local pancake house on our last morning to try Aruban pancakes and those were delicious! We went across the street one night for dinner, too.

I loved the location of our hotel. There were shops and several restaurants across the street. Every night we would walk to the Hilton, Hyatt, or RIU to go to their casino. (our hotel's casino was set to open the Friday after we left) We would always compare our pool area and beach area to theirs. We had the nicest beach area by far. It was WAY cleaner than any other hotel beach. We also had a security guard that stood by the entrance to our pool area so that was nice.

All in all I felt like it was a great hotel for a great vacation. We would definitely return to Aruba and without question would stay at Barcelo again. I think they read all of the reviews on here because I felt like they addressed most of the concerns other people had written about. That tells me that they will only get better with time. ☺

Room tip: Oceanfront rooms have an AMAZING view!

Once again thanks for your kind words. I want you to know that we are aware that the Seafood restaurants has it's issues but we are working diligently to make sure these are resolved. All in all I am happy none of these affected your dinner.

We stayed at Barcelo for the first time in Jan/February. We had always stayed at Radisson/Hilton. First experience with all inclusive in Aruba. We booked through travel agent/Apple Vacations. It was a totally enjoyable vacation. The restaurants were very good. Buffet was great for breakfast and lunch. Many activities for children and adults. The location was great. We had a very nice view of pool and ocean from our fourth floor room. With the money we saved on our 12 night stay we still ate at a few of our favorite restaurants in Aruba. They recently started drink service on the beach since they closed their beach bar. Gary and Nalia were very efficient in their new job. Entertainment staff really loved their job and it showed. The nightly shows were entertaining. Wish the casino had been open....missed that and went o a nearby casino. The concierge staff...Hazel,Marco,Sandra and Veronica were very attentive to our needs and helped with dinner reservations. Elmo in the Japanese restaurant was great. Enrique at the pool bar was very efficient and attentive also. We made the decision that we would return to Barcelo next year since we thoroughly enjoyed this vacation. The only drawback is the palapa situation. You have to get up at 4am to reserve shade for the day. Not everyone can sit in the sun all day. There should be an option to rent a palapa or reserve the day before. Not the day of. And I never saw hand sanitizer in restaurants. Barcelo was very clean though. Someone always cleaning!
Think that this is important to help prevent spread of germs. All in all we loved it though.

Room tip: 4th floor was great for pool view and ocean view.

Dear CLMRN,

First of all we would like to thank you for taking the time to write us a review and especially for sharing your experience with us. Certainly a vacation in paradise.
We work extremely hard to offer our guests memories and especially culinary experiences because after all it is all about the memories. I am especially moved by your kind words of our team members as they work hard to provide the best service in town. I know the palapa situation is an issue however the only way to solve it is to plant more palm trees for shades because after the introduction of the new beach policies the government does not allow any more structures on the beach and the palapas are considered as structures because they are anchored in concrete. Thank you for pointing out about the hand sanitizes, we have one in each public restroom in a black dispenser that reads sanitize right next to the soap and towel dispenser.
Once again thank you for choosing us and we are excited to welcome you back next year.

Warm regards,
