First off, we arrived early, hurray! We were shown to our studio suite and found we were upgraded to a one bedroom suite. This was wonderful, as it allowed us to have two bathrooms and a separate bedroom from the children.

With booking a studio, it included free golf after 3. We booked a tee time at 4 every day prior to leaving home. This was a wonderful time for us to be alone doing something we enjoyed. When they say proper dress, they mean collared shirts for men and women, and several of us women were told they could "borrow a shirt!".

Mulligans was one of the best restaurants we ate at. The kids requested that we go back over and over. The Sea Breeze cafe had an excellent breakfast. We did not try Windows to Aruba - we just could not justify the extra expense. The other resort restaurants were ok.

The casino was smoky. We went for an hour and it was ok, nothing special. We enjoyed the casinos on the cruise ships, and Foxwoods more.

We asked for information on the timeshare, which turned out to be confusing. They couldn't decide who we should speak with. The 10 minute presentation was 2 hours, and we did not receive a free gift. In addition, we were truly interested until we were told we had to make a decision on the spot. Neither of us are that type of person to be pressured into a sale.

Vacation yes, again in a heartbeat, to own, not so much.

Room Tip: It was worth upgrading to a studio apartment. Instead of booking online, we called in the reservation.

We stayed here on an RCI timeshare exchange in July 2011 in a 2 bedroom unit. The unit consisted of a one bedroom unit with 1-3/4 bath, along with a studio unit with one bath. The studio unit was gigantic. One thing I didn’t like about the studio floor plan was that the TV is in the sitting area, so you can’t really watch TV in bed unless you are lying on your side. Even then the TV is far away. The floor plan might be an issue if you had a big group because the tables only seat four. You might be able to move one of the tables into the other unit to create a big table.

We had a few minor maintenance issues at the unit. The ones we didn’t report or bother with were: a switch plate cover was missing, the propane BBQ ran out of propane on the second use, and the clothes washer did not drain. The clothes washer wasn’t an issue because the one bedroom and studio each had a washer and dryer! It would be very nice to have two washers and dryers if you have a big group.

The things we complained about and got fixed were a problem with the safe (which was fixed very quickly), and a burned out bathroom light. The bathroom light took a couple days.

Check-in was a little slow, probably because we arrived around 11 p.m. and there was not a lot of staff, and there were two other groups around the lobby trying to check in or get something. One the other hand, check out was very fast and efficient. I was surprised that we were checking out near the official check out time, and everything moved along very quickly. The staff did a great job of issuing the invoice, picking up our bags on time, and pre-arranging a cab the day before.

The studio unit didn’t have a swing bar door lock. The one bedroom unit did have this type of lock so that you can open the door a couple inches and still be locked inside. I thought it was strange that some units are more secure than others.

Our unit was on the first floor of the “Birdie 2” building, and our patio was about 10 yards away from the edge of the pool deck with the big pool with the slide. It was a little annoying that there is a walkway between the buildings, with the patio against the walkway and no dividing rail . Not a big deal, but it seemed like people cut across our next door neighbor’s patio all the time. We actually had two patios, one for each unit. The parking was very close to both our front door and patio door. We never had an issue with finding a parking space.

There are a total of four pools in the complex. The pool with the slide is definitely the noisiest, but there are other quiet pools around if that’s what you prefer. There is drink service at the big pool, but I didn’t get the impression that anyone is working too hard to sell drinks poolside. The big pool also has a swim up bar.

The walk to the edge of the sand at the beach was six minutes. The beach is incredibly wide, and its another couple minutes to walk to the water.

We did our main grocery shopping at Ling & Sons, and then mid-week we went to Super Foods. Ling & Sons has just about everything that you find in an American grocery store. Super Foods is smaller and has more Dutch foods. The pastries and cheeses were wonderful and not very expensive. There is not a mini-market at the resort. I think the closest mini-market one is at the Casa Del Mar resort down the road.

There is a Hertz car rental desk at the Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort, and also a desk at the Divi Tamarijn across the road. It seems like the staff wanders between the two depending on what is needed. After our airport arrival we took a cab to the resort, and then rented a car the next day. We returned it the day before we left, and took a cab back to the airport. We always find it less stressful to get a rental car after settling in.

Our daytime activities included the afternoon snorkel tour on Jolly Pirates, the all day trip to DePalm Island, and two afternoons where we drove to Arashi beach to snorkel on our own with gear from home. Arashi beach is a great place for walk-out snorkeling for beginners.

We didn’t eat any meals at the resort. We went to Pizza Bob’s twice, Casa Del Mar resort for all-you-can-eat rib night, Café the Plaza in Oranjestad, and mostly ate “at home” the rest of the time.

My husband played 18 holes of golf one day (twice on the 9 hole course) and said that the course was beautiful and very well maintained. He tried to sign up for a discounted lesson (maybe $10 for a one hour group lesson?), but it was already full. I remember it was a bargain price.

This resort is not beachfront, and very few units have a view of the ocean. This was our second trip to Aruba, and our first visit was six years ago at nearby Casa Del Mar resort. I really enjoy the beach in between the two resorts, and highly recommend this area of Aruba for people who want to spend a lot of time next to the water.

Who says it never rains in Aruba? It rained 4 of the 5 days we were there! Alot of construction going on at the hotel and very muddy with the rain and construction. Wish the hotel had been directly on the beach instead of across the street. TV only worked part of the time and it took forever for them to fix it. Nice pool bar. City was nice and the italian restaurant at the lighthouse was the highlight of the trip!

My sister, husband and I travel together. We love the whole atmosphere at the Divi Golf and Beach Resort. The staff is always friendly and helpful. They take you all over in the shuttles which is very convenient. The rooms we have had are beautiful and clean. there are 2 baths in the ones we have stayed. Huge kitchen and dining area if you eat in. There is a nice balcony to sit after the beach. We shop at one of the local grocery stores to get snacks and beer and wine; you can actually walk to it. We have booked again for Feb. and we can not wait! Can't really tell a dislike. Oh and there is a casino very close--WE just read and rest and have a ball!! The infinity pool is fantastic.

Room Tip: First year we were assigned a room in the newer section. Second year we rented a timeshare--it was great. We requested our first year room

A friend and I decided to take about 10 days vacation and since neither of us had been to Aruba, thought we would try it. The island and the ocean were delightful, the Divi Dutch was OK. I wish I could rate it more highly, since our rooms were fine and convenient to the ocean and pool, and the immediate housekeeping staff was very good. On the management side, there seemed to be a studied indifference or inability to deal with what we saw as problems, particularly in the Internet access, which was very important to us. It was expensive, $50.00 for a week, but even that would be acceptable at a resort IF IT WORKED! I made several trips to the main desk to report that it simply did not exist at our location and was responded to with various reasons, but no real attempt was made to correct the problem. I was able to make a few connections, but it was a major source of disappointment and wasted time. We will probably return, because the resort was otherwise good, but for the relatively costly accommodations and extra cost for non-existent internet access, I consider the Divi Dutch overrated.

Room Tip: The US representaative to make the reservations was very helpful.
