Had booked into a hotel in Shanklin and was not happy with the accomadation so checked out straight away,Drove towards lake and saw vacancies at Osterley Lodge so stopped and enquired, glad we did as the owner was very helpful and gave us a double with ensuite on the ground floor, She showed us to our room and made us feel very welcome,Had a great nights sleep and considering it was rainning all night did not hear a thing.Had breakfast in the morning which was lovely,A full English cooked to order and served hot and not dripping in grease.Yet again was greeted by the owner very nicely.Would reccomend to anyone for a quiet nights stay and a great breakfast.

This was our fourth visit to the Isle of Wight, and for the fourth time we chose to stay at this really cosy friendly guest house. Mrs and Mrs Horton have always been polite, and accommodating. We like the place because it's very quiet, especially at night, even though it's on a main road. Our comfortable, good sized, clean room with en-suite, TV, tea and coffee facilities, was on the first floor, overlooking the quaint back garden, and even with the windows open it was still quiet. Although there are 8 rooms rented, and is always mostly full, you can barely know that there are other guests staying. We only find out that there have been more arrivals when we go down for breakfast, and are surprised how we never hear anything, or anybody.

So, how this Marja can say it was noisy, it's hard to understand. We can never hear the cisterns filling, let alone any other plumbing noises or banging. Not a footstep either.

As regards to Breakfast, this is something both I and my husband look forward to, as there is a variety every day, apart from bacon, eggs, and sausage, which I have to mention are delicious, especially the bacon, is really tasty, None of your run of the mill cheap supermarket stuff, I'm sure.
Breakfast is always plentiful, and there is a choice of cereal as well, yoghurts,, jams, and juices. So you are not only treated to a full English cooked breakfast, but you have the added advantage of having cereal to your hearts content. What more can you ask for. Set you up for the day.
Mr and Mrs Horton are always ready to please, very polite, and helpful, and very nice that we keep going back to this Gem of a B&B through our own choice. We feel at home, and compliments nicely our yearly trip to the Isle Of Wight. Especially as it is in a very good location within short distance of the beach at SANDOWN, and the lovely village of Shanklin. The Osterley Lodge has plenty of off street parking, and if needed, the bustops are within walking distance.
Shame the weather was against us this time, but we still enjoyed our week, had a relaxing time, and every morning we woke up fresh and well rested after a very quiet good night's sleep.
Looking forward to our next visit already, so watch out Mrs Horton, because we will be in touch again as soon as we make plans.
My husband and I recommend this B&B without hesitation. Perfect location for a quiet break away. And good value for money. *****

Found Osterley Lodge by accident!
Were heading into Shanklin when we spotted the delightful exterior of Osterley Lodge. Quick U-turn & decided to see if they had a suitable room available. We were right to stop!. This place is a gem.
Really comfy room overlooking the delightful back garden, which guests are free to use. Luckily the weather was kind to us so we managed to spend some time in the garden.
Breakfast was ideal. Plenty of choice and pleasantly served. I think some of the other reviewers must have stayed in a different guest house!
We only intended staying one night but ended up staying 4. Osterley Lodge is ideally situated for all this gorgeous island has to offer.
The proprietors were very helpful and recommended several good eateries for an evening meal. They don't even mind if you bring in a Take-away!!!
Hopefully we will be back on the Island before too long and will make sure we stay here.
Many thanks for making our short break so welcoming.

We planned to stay for 5 nights in Osterley Lodge, but we end up running away on the second morning. The owners need basic rules of customer service for sure simply based on an extremely poor reception and replying to the honest reviews on this page. It looks like the words 'apology' or 'sorry' do not exist in their dictionary.

The night we arrived, we were shown to our room without a word. I kept saying sorry for being late and saw no response from the landlord. The breakfast was definitely poor quality and below the average by 4 star B &B standards. The bacon and sausage was so old that my partner could not have it and when we asked for scrambled eggs instead, the landlady came to the dinning room personally to see why we were asking for an 'extra' breakfast portion !

The room was fairly small on the ground floor. The main problem with the room was that a loud noise was echoing in the whole room every time someone was flushing the toilet upstairs. This woke us up several times at night throughout our stay. The surprise came when we tried to explain this to the landlord who dismissed the problem altogether without offering any alternatives or apologies !!

Certainly not recommended if you are going on holiday to Isle of Wight.

Susan H, Owner at Osterley Lodge, responded to this reviewResponded 8 June 2012

This guest mentioned when she booked that she would be arriving late, which was not a problem for us. She phoned while en route and did not seem to have any idea about catamaran/train/bus service times so I looked them up and phoned her back with them. My husband waited up and showed her quietly to her room overlooking the garden at half past midnight to try not to disturb our other guests.

Next morning her partner ordered a full English breakfast, which as always was freshly cooked to order. He returned an almost empty plate saying that he did not like it and ordered scrambled eggs. As they had not sat at their allocated table my young waitress was upset that she might have got the order wrong. I went into the dining room to apologise to them, and to find out what was required. This guest offered to pay for the extra breakfast but I told her that was not necessary.

After breakfast the next morning this guest complained to my husband that the plumbing had disturbed them in the night. He told her that he could do nothing about the plumbing in a Victorian house, and that he could not change her to another room that night as we were already fully booked. She seemed to think that he would ask another guest to swap rooms with her. He offered to upgrade her the following night which she agreed to.

When we discovered late that day that she had left we flushed the toilets in that part of the house and could hear nothing but the usual sound of the cisterns refilling.

In our confirmation letter it quite clearly states that cancellations for Bank holiday bookings are charged in full. As a gesture of goodwill I wrote immediately to this guest enclosing the receipt for her deposit and explaining that we would waive her outstanding debt. We soon resold the room to other guests who when they left said how much they had enjoyed their stay.

Although we do our best to ensure that all our guests are comfortable if they require a night porter and purpose built rooms they should really book a 4 star hotel, not B&B.

Had a very pleasant stay at the Osterley , the room was comfortable , Clean and warm.
Guests have the use of a good size lounge as well as a self service bar. there was also a very pretty , well kept garden that had an area for guests to sit out in.
Breakfast was good , with plenty of choice.
Cliff top walks and beaches are close by and is it situated well for touring the rest of the island.
Good value for money , will go back again.
