“Beautiful place, perfect stay”
Reviewed 16 January 2017

We spent 2 nights in this beautiful place and would like to stay much longer. It was so beautiful and everything was just perfect. We had 2 rooms which one was beachfront and one with garden view and both were comfortable with good showers and good beds. We had lot of fun with walking around or playing some table tennis and also enjoyed very much just doing nothing sitting by the beach watching calm water and stunning sunset.... Food in restaurant was delicious and staff were very friendly and efficient as well as very helpful. We loved the place, and would like to go back !

Room Tip: Rooms on the beachfront with beautiful view

Some of the old reviews with complaints about noise and rooms/bathrooms being 'tired' meant we had some nervousness about Raetihi before we arrived. But this was completely unfounded, as the lovely new owners have refurbished the lodge in a stylish, comfortable and welcoming style.

The trip to the lodge is an easy and beautiful adventure in itself. We were warmly welcomed on the jetty and almost immediately felt like we were visiting family friends.

The owners are superb. Warm, welcoming, very knowledgable about the area, and will do anything to help ensure you enjoy your stay. The excellent staff follow in suit.

The food is excellent and there is a great selection of wines at very reasonable prices.

We did a romantic picnic on a remote and deserted beach, which was fabulous. There are gorgeous walks and following these with an excellent massage from Judy is highly recommend (we have a weekly massage at home, and Judy really is excellent).

We were genuinely sad to leave. And this was made even sadder, as we left to go another lodge in the Sounds (Bay of Many Coves), which was allegedly more luxurious, but which sadly was a real disappointment.

We look forward to returning to Raetihi for many more beautiful and relaxing holidays.

This is a beautiful place to add to your itinerary whilst touring New Zealand. To get to Raetihi Lodge you need to book a water taxi from Picton town Wharf to Waterfall Bay. Then by arrangement someone from the lodge will meet you from there to transport you overland to Te Mahia where you pick up a smaller boat which takes you to the lodge. The scenery on each of these journeys is simply stunning.
The lodge is a real delight when you eventually get there and the hospitality is first class. The room I occupied was very spacious, modern, clean and comfortable, plus it provided an idyllic view of the waterfront. The meals and service we had staying here were lovely and could really not be faulted. Raetihi really is a place to visit to get away from it all and simply relax. Many thanks to Alan, Colin and Kristie for making our stay so memorable.

We spent a night and 3 meals at this lovely place with friends - they had a beachfront room and our was facing the garden. Both were extremely comfortable - what a marvelous bed! I slept better than in weeks. Staff were attentive without fuss, and the meals were all a very high standard. Some local walks, not too strenuous. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: All rooms quiet and accessibly, you pay more for beach view, but garden view very good

We spent a very enjoyable few days here during our honeymoon in Dec 2015 and cannot recommend it enough. Lovely place, staff and food. Great outdoors options and plenty to do. The only thing that would have made it better would be to introduce complimentary breakfasts, as the food (even though it was the highest quality) was quite expensive and as there isn't anywhere else to eat, you don't have any other option and it does become expensive. The private transfer by boat, car, boat is worth the money and gets you there super quick. I would love to stay here again.
