A group of us stayed a weekend here at Waitata Bay Lodge for a friends birthday and had a wonderful time. We used the kayaks and the dinghy for a meander along the coastline, we walked, we relaxed and chatted, enjoyed some good wine and beer (we had brought with us), read books and magazines, swam in the sea and soaked in the spa.

The house we stayed in was clean, very comfortable and had everything we needed in the kitchen, dining room and lounge plus barbecue and outdoor furniture so we could enjoy alfresco dining and the fantastic views of the bay and surrounds. Rooms had a mix of beds (ours had a queen size bed with two sets of bunks, the other room a double and a set of bunks, and another room had a queen size bed). Clean fresh sheets and comfy warm duvets and blankets. We shared the large bathroom with two toilets and showers. There was even a washing machine.

The lodge has other accommodation and while we were there another family were visiting with teenagers and they caught a feast of crayfish/lobsters and were kind enough to share some with us - what a treat!

For a family holiday, weekend away with friends, couples romantic hideaway or somewhere to relax, retreat, unwind and rebalance alone I can highly recommend. I thought to myself what a lovely place this would be to sit and write a book or paint or take your hobby and really absorb yourself away from the maddening crowd.

Along with the lovely bush walks and sea kayaking, there is good fishing and diving and great mountain biking too.

It's a reasonable drive out from Rai Valley towards the outer Marlborough Sounds but if you have wisely brought enough fresh food and supplies with you then you will be able to set yourself up and relish this lovely quiet and beautiful place. Access is via road from Rai Valley that winds its way around the bays or by boat (there is a good sized jetty) or floatplane (if you are coming from Picton).

The hosts Michael and Debra Brennan are very friendly and helpful making you feel welcome and at the same time giving you space to enjoy your stay.

We stayed a weekend yet I could easily stay a week or month!

If you are looking for somewhere away from the maddening crowd, peaceful, idyllic with good fishing and great accommodation this is a fabulous option.
