Never fails to disappoint, it was delicious! Service is top notch, old fashioned manners and service here. Sunday roast was sublime, exceptional! Even our 2 picky teenagers ate everything! Can’t wait to return.

My other half has been coming here since 1984 & he has been treating me to meals here for the last five years. The food today was as amazing as ever, the service was spot on but it’s the welcome you get as you enter that really separates this place from any other you go to. You’re made to feel welcome as soon as you enter. We love this place & we will be back. After all, There’s not many places around here you can get Molotov

Despite living very locally, this is the first visit here for me.

Surroundings and ambience - a really good country pub. Fantastic to walk into the bar with a roaring fire.

Food - it was good. Some people I was with said their food was great, for me it was good not great. I'm being particularly critical because of the prices. I think when the main courses are between £25 and £46, you really should be expecting something very special. (If the price puts you in a different league to most restaurants, then so should the experience).

Other reviews here mention a feel of UK restaurants from the 60's, and I can see that - the service was rather old school, as was the majority of the menu. By the way - there's nothing wrong with that, but it has to be done well.

A pretty major faux pas - having ordered a veggie option, the waiter came round serving vegetables. It was only after he'd done this and moved on that I noticed - it turned out that the cabbage was done with bacon. So the person ordering a vegetarian option had his plate covered in bacon. Thanks. Again, I think when the price is what it is, you can expect the service to be pretty flawless, and that was unforgiveable.

Puddings were good, but served directly in the dining room which again is a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing it, and leads to a fairly uninspiring presentation. To be fair the cheesecake was pretty outstanding.

Overall - mixed. The price indicates an aspiration to top league - I think they achieve close to that but not quite. They need to think about vegetarians though - we're people too.

If it wasn't for the bacon incident then I'd probably be inclined to go back, but as I say that was unforgiveable.
