Ideal setting for visitors to Ullswater, Glenridding and Helvellyn. Only about 10 minutes from M6/A66. It is at eastern end of the Lake which is only five minutes walk from the hotel. the steamers are a bout 8 minutes walk.

Hotel is well appointed with small but well presented rooms. Very comfortable bed, lovely bathroom with super accessories. Great TV and wi-fi.

Service is very pleasant and helpful. Small bar area is very homely. We ate here for an evening meal. whilst pricy and a bit 'nouvelle cuisine' it was superb food with a very knowledgeable chef. Can certainly recommend the home made butter with warm bread before the meal and the home made ice cream for dessert. The halibut and guinea fowl we had for mains was lovely. Breakfast had good choice and really well served. only minor complaint here is that the tables are very close together for this time of day!!

Small but good choices of well kept local beer complemented everything the hotel. presented.

Room Tip: Our room was small so if large room needed maybe best to check first

We recently stayed here for two nights. It is beautifully decorated and our room was spacious with a large comfortable bed. The breakfast choice was very good and superbly cooked. We ate there one night and really enjoyed the experience.

We have been here 3 times over the past 18 months.
The food is superb. Yes the portion sizes aren't massive but that's not the reason you go there! Beautifully presented, amazingly tasty and locally sourced.
The service is always first class and the environment is relaxing, warm and welcoming. A lovely retreat following a day out in the elements.

We stayed for 5 nights in room 4. The room was clean and comfortably furnished and had two chairs and a small sitting area. Though on the main road the room was very quiet. The bathroom only had a shower, which we prefer, and was a decent size. Everywhere in the B&B was nicely furnished and clean. All the staff we dealt with were pleasant and helpful. They made you feel at home and seemed to want you to enjoy your stay. Everything was run very efficiently. The options if you don't want a cooked breakfast are slightly limited for a 5 day stay but the cooked options are varied and looked very nice. We ate dinner twice in the restaurant. The food is excellent and nicely presented. Though we do not like large portions we felt the main courses were too small. Parking outside is limited but the location is good for walking out, using the lake steamers or driving out to other local scenic spots.

Fine dining is all about the details, and this is where the extra expense is generally justified.

I have no problem with the portion sizes, unlike other reviewers, as this is fine dining - the chef has obviously put a lot of thought into the flavour combinations, and the work is beautifully presented. Having said that, there is still a bit of work to do to elevate the dishes in order to justify the prices, as I’ve eaten better for less at similar restaurants. However, this is a great establishment and I’m sure they will endeavour to get better and better.

The waiter and waitress were great, unobtrusive but helpful. The background music, another detail, was all over the shop, ranging from remixes of Killers tracks to some fairly awful 80’s ballads. Eclectic for sure, but also slightly jarring.

Overall though this place is well worth a visit as the flavours and local produce are really good, decent wine list and a cracking cheeseboard - treat yourself if you can afford it, and eat well.
