“Serene Villa with incredible views”
Reviewed 20 January 2022 for a stay in January 2022

It is nearly impossible to put into words how incredible Anam Cara Villa is. In Gaelic Anam Cara means “soul friend” and that is exactly what you will find here, perched above the crystal clear Caribbean waters in your own private Villa. After arriving to the island via ferry the house was a lovely 15 - 20 minute car ride over the mountain with spectacular views. The location is unbelievable as one of only two homes directly on South Sound there is loads of privacy while still having easy access to the North Sound and welcome center as well as gateway free water taxis to Oil Nut Bay, Saba Rock, Bitter End Yacht Club and much more. Truly a special place on the island!

The house itself is very spacious and well-equipped. Each bedroom has its own bathroom and great views making choosing rooms a breeze for a large group. Speedy WIFI is provided and even works down on the private beach! The kitchen is well-appointed with all the appliances you would expect to find at home and featured an awesome outdoor breakfast bar situated through a large retractable window overlooking the sound and surrounding hillside. With a spacious patio and pool to one side of the kitchen and a large deck with a lounge area and dinner table to the other there is no shortage of places to eat, relax and hang out with your travel mates. Star gazing from the lounge chairs on the deck was definitely one of my favorite parts of the trip. Plenty of common space inside as well. The two bedrooms in the “pool house” offer a little extra privacy, full bathrooms and even outdoor showers!

Be sure to bring some snorkeling gear as the shallow waters of the sound offer just spectacular opportunities to view the marine life in their natural habitat. We were able to see not only countless fish species but also lobster, sea turtles, and even a manta ray. Also the pavilion located on the beach is a great spot for some morning yoga, or if you are like me and have a hard time leaving work at home, a great spot to sit with your laptop. This Villa was absolutely the linchpin in an epic stay on Virgin Gorda. Would recommend many times over.

“Beautiful and luxurious villa”
Reviewed 1 May 2019 for a stay in April 2019

My friends and I had a wonderful stay at Anam Cara Villa. The villa itself offered tons of activities for us — we were able to lay out by the pool, relax inside after a day out at the beach, star gaze from one of the balconies (plus we saw a gorgeous shooting star!) and have cocktails while looking out on the ocean. The villa itself was big with plenty of room for our group to gather. Plus, the beds were so comfortable - I woke up feeling refreshed and relaxed every day. It was also wonderful waking up to the sound of the ocean and being able to see the turquoise water from almost any window in the home.

I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to my friends and family.

“Absolutely Amazing”

I was lucky enough to spend a week at Anam Cara Villa this past May and it was by far the best island vacation experience I have ever had. I was traveling with a group of friends that made all the arrangements and was relatively clueless as to what was in store, so finally arriving at our tropical home was a pleasant surprise to say the least. The house sits at the end of a private dirt road that meanders past very inquisitive cows, chickens, and goats that all stare as you drive by. Then out of the blue you arrive at Anam Cara Villa and are immediately greeted with the ocean, a sea breeze, and beautiful landscaping surrounding the place. Private is an understatement, you feel as if you own the entire bay no matter which balcony you are looking out from (each bedroom has their own!).

The place is huge and absolutely perfect for a group whether it be family, friends, or just acquaintances since it has five completely ensuite bedrooms (two of which are in a separate building off the pool for even more privacy). The kitchen is fully stocked with supplies and large enough to handle all the food and mouths you have with you. There is even a family room downstairs with couches, a TV, a Wii, and a whole wall of DVDs if you want to use them (although we never even got the chance). But for me, the most important appeal of Anam Cara Villa was without a doubt the outdoor atmosphere. It gets hot in BVI, but with a constant breeze off the ocean it was somehow never too warm to enjoy the weather. And did I mention the infinity pool complete with swim up bar, colorful lights and water features? Or the outdoor kitchen with a fridge, grill, and sink right on level with said swim up bar? The entire property screams private vacation. There is a certain comfort in knowing that no matter what you feel like doing that day, whether it be casually reading on the deck, playing music and enjoying a drink at the bar, or simply sleeping the day away with only the ocean breeze to lull you to sleep, the place you chose to rent can accommodate anything.

And if you can manage to drag yourself away from Anam Cara Villa, there are beaches and restaurants galore just a (very) short drive or water taxi away. Virgin Gorda doesn't exactly have a complicated highway system, so it is pretty simple to find your way around. If I could recommend one place it would be Hog Heaven, a nice casual BBQ joint with a view that will blow your socks off.

I can only hope that I will be able to find my way back to Anam Cara Villa at some point in the future. Five thousands stars.

This was my first visit to Virgin Gorda and after this wonderful stay at Anam Cara it won't be my last. The home was incredibly comfortable and accommodating. The home is so secluded you feel like you are on your own private island. We loved the drive going back to the home with cows and goats along the route, felt like we in the English countryside. The privacy is incredible, we sat out at night under the stars listening to loud music not worrying about anybody complaining about our music. The views are spectacular from all angles and every room offers beautiful ocean vistas. We were there in January and the pool was a perfect temperature and also offers beautiful views. The house is beautifully decorated with stone everywhere. The house is large enough to allow privacy for a large group. The kitchen was completely furnished with everything you might need and we had great breakfasts and dinners on the outdoor bar and dining table. They even offer laundry service for a nominal charge which we loved. The snorkeling in front of the house is considered some of the best on the island. There is also a nearby grocery for all your needs. I am an international airline pilot and have stayed all over the world and I consider Anam Cara one of the greatest places I have stayed. I can't wait to come back and it will be very soon.

The home was definitely a beautiful home and very secluded. In short if your looking for a large and secluded home with amazing views and just need a place to relax with no distractions then this is the place for you. Only negatives are no pool heat, no beach, no laundry and no internet. It shows some normal wear and tear with a rental but overall was very clean and very comfortable. This home is extremely secluded so if your looking to to avoid humans it is perfect for you. Do not be scared as you wind down a long and secluded dirt road for almost 1 mile. There are only two homes on this road. Unfortunately the beach was unusable due to the extensive seaweed that has built up down the entire cove/beach. It has been there for some time. Pool is not heated therefore was quite cool to use during our stay. The internet is via a mobile 3G hotspot and spotty at best therefore if internet is a priority this property will not work for you. Hope this helps!

Glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your compliments on the beauty of the villa, it's wonderful location and its cleanliness. We agree and also love the scenic one mile drive along the flat road through the unique waterfront farm area - one of the last active farms in the BVI! Regarding the Internet in the BVI we do clearly mention in our welcome brochure sent to guests that speeds and capacity are not equal to those enjoyed in the USA. However it does work fine for email use as long as you avoid the usual "rush hour". Capacity issues are being addressed by the carriers and will be improving over the next couple of months but we can't expect to stream TV just yet. Enjoy the digital holiday while you still can...remember you are "in da islands mon!" As a "Green" property Anam Cara Villa has a solar heated pool with temperatures kept between the low to mid eighties Faranheit. This is the recommended healthy temperature range for US indoor recreational pools. Sometimes in the hot Tropical sun entering the sea or a heated pool in the eighties can feel cool until you get in and swim. It is a large swimming pool, complete with a swim up bar, waterfall and fountain. The monitored temperature during your stay had a low of 82 degrees. There is a complete laundry facility at the Villa. The rental agreement details that wash, dry and fold service is provided to guests by staff upon request. We have found through experience this is the best way to ensure that the on site laundry facility is always functioning and available. Regarding the sink back up we do apologize. This issue was addressed by maintenance staff when reported. The villa does have 10 showers, 3 baths, and 11 sinks. We are sorry to hear that seaweed washed up on the villa beach during your stay. The sargasso seaweed is a natural seasonal occurrence. It does provide essential cover for sea turtle hatchlings when they leave the beach for the open water. The tropical storm season usually washes it out to sea. The colorful tropical fish population in front of the Villa has never been better as long as we can remember. The South Sound Marine sanctuary is protected by the offshore reef that results in clear and calm water at all times. Great for snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding etc..
