“Pleasant stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 February 2012

My partner and I stayed with a few friends in a Pool side suite, and would definitely stay again. The rooms service was fantastic, the restaurants are very good quality, and the location was excellent. We had some minor gripes with service and cleanliness of some things, but overall not enough to dampen our experience. I'd happily stay again.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you enjoyed the One Bedroom Garden Villa by the main waterfall swimming pool. We are equally pleased to read that you enjoyed dining at our three restaurants: Oceans Bistro, Tang Tapas and Windjammer Restaurant.

We apologise for the service issues you experienced, most probably at Oceans Bistro, where we have younger newer staff in training. We will speed up our training programs to ensure service is top notch.

We hope to see you again, soon.

Best wishes,

Rohan Ellis

My Husband and I stayed for our honeymoon in a Pool Suite. You always tend to read the bad reviews when your checking out hotels, but I did notice most were written prior to renovation, and what a renovation it was, with wall to wall Marble, and premium fittings, there was no such thing as second best. On arrival we recieved no less than a bottle of premium Champagne and fruit platter. Our room was pristine. We have stayed in alot of so called nice resorts in Hawaii, and Tahiti, and this one tops the list for all round luxury service and food. We enjoyed meals at both resteraunts, the island night was really enjoyable featuring Miss Rarotonga and 2 of the top 3 fire dancers in the world. All the staff were so friendly and helpul, they made you feel really special. We checked out a number of other resorts on the island (The Edgewater, the Rarotongan and the Sanctuary, and The Muri beach resort) and I was really happy we had picked the right resort.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to read that you loved your renovated ultra private Courtyard Pool Suite complete with private swimming pool and outdoor dining gazebo. We are currently renovating all other room types to deliver a stunning product, all round.

Our three restaurants (Windjammer, Tang Tapas, Oceans) features innovative Pacific-rim cuisine that is freshly prepared, and at prices that wont break the bank.

Our fabulous Island Nights (Mon + Thu) gives visitors a sample of true Cook Islands cuisine featuring over 30 dishes, followed by dessert, then topped off with an enthralling cultural show featuring beautiful island maidens (including former Miss Rarotonga), muscle-built island warriors, and award-winning awe-inspiring fire knife dancers...for only NZD55 per adult (much cheaper than similar offers from other resorts and entertainment venues in the Cook Islands).

Thank you for your praise of our warm Polynesian service delivered by our 85 strong team of Cook Islanders who ooze the art of hospitality: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.

We will continue to upgrade and improve our product & service to ensure we continue to deliver good 'value for money'.

We hope to see you again, soon.

Best wishes,

Rohan Ellis

We stayed for 7 nights here and really appreciated the location and the friendly staff. We had a beach side villa which was beautiful and spacious, complete with our own deck, lounge chairs and a hot tub (which turned out to be great during the heavy downpour one day!). The grounds were also beautiful and well kept up. There is an 'on-site' dive shop which is quite handy, and the folks there are great. The restaurants were nice, and the food was delicious. The only complaint I would have is that the service at dinner, though friendly and earnest, was inconsistent sometimes taking several reminders to get an order. Perhaps a new staff member? We did enjoy the Island Night entertainment, though the food that night was mediocre. Also, though there is ostensibly on-site self service laundry, the dryer was broken so this wasn't available. And I agree with Kiki_Doc that the DVDs should be free given the cost of the rooms. Overall, however, I would recommend this resort.

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

Our Beachfront Spa Villas have commenced a total refurb and retrofit to present a beautiful space with modern amenities complete with brand new kitchen, twin rain showers & twin vanities, four poster bed with flowing fabrics and a new private swimming pool to be positioned on the decking area with a stunning view of the blue Pacific & magical daily sunsets.

We have many new staff in training at Oceans Restaurant and they do, from time to time, accidentally forget orders. We are so sorry for this. We will get it right, soon.

Our Island Feast features over 30 local dishes that can be considered 'bland' to the international palate. We are currently testing island dishes with oriental + arabian herbs & spice to hopefully enhance island style cuisine. We are pleased to read that you loved the vibrant cultural performance presented by Rarotonga's top dance troupes.

Our two dryers in the guest laundry are indeed 'out of action' awaiting parts from the USA. In the meantime, we are happy to use our large commercial dryer in our housekeeping department.

We are planning to introduce media players into all our villas with portable hard-drives with a range of complimentary entertainment options.

Our team of 85 Cook Islanders continue to ooze Polynesian hospitality straight from the heart: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.

We hope to see you again, soon.

Best wishes,

Rohan Ellis

We stayed here for the second part of our Cook Islands honeymoon, and were immediately impressed with the location and friendly staff. However, we were booked in to a garden villa, and at $500 per night I have to say we were disapointed. The room needed upgrading, so we upgraded ourselves to the pool suite, and what a difference! Beautiful rooms, classy finish, good air-con, lovely pool. I definately recommend upgrading to these rooms if you are after an indulgent, romantic getaway, and can afford it (full rate is $700 p/n). They don't enjoy the same views as the garden villas, but you get the ultimate in privacy instead. We would have preferred to not pay for DVD hire at the price we were paying for the rooms, but that's only a small qualm in an otherwise beautiful resort.

Room Tip: The pool suites are much nicer than the garden villas inside, but you are paying more

Kia Orana,

Thank you for your kind words about your recent stay at Crown Beach Resort & Spa.

We are pleased to advise that our One Bedroom Garden Villas are being progressively refurbished and retrofitted with modern kitchen, modern bathroom, new furniture and lighting to maintain our 4.5+ star rating. This refurb process will be completed by the 1st April 2012.

We are pleased to read that you loved our ultra private Courtyard Pool Suites with private swimming pool and outdoor dining gazebo. The suites are the future of our resort as we upgrade our villas to a similar style, each with its own swimming pool.

We are planning to introduce media players and hard-drives loaded up with complimentary entertainment options for all villas, which will replace our current DVD hire system.

We are pleased to read that you loved our resort presentation and the gracious Polynesian service presented by our team of 85 Cook Islanders: Warm. Unpretentious. Island Style.

We hope to see you again, soon.

This is a wonderful place to stay, get married or like us pop in for a relaxing cocktail and enjoy the island show. The staff are amazing and so helpful. We had many lovely meals here and at WindJammer. The pool suite is stunning and you even have your own claw bath. I hope to stay here when i am back in April. Also the snorkelling is great from the beach...loads of fish and if you take the time to look in all the nooks and crannys you can see lion fish, coral prawn and moray eels. The best cocktail on the list is the banana colada and the chocolate desert is mouth watering. Thanks everyone. Ness xx

Room Tip: I would totally go for the pool suite. So beautiful and you can sunbathe in private..no tan marks

Our lagoon is a haven for colourful fish, soft coral, wild clam and interesting sealife including our pet moray eel - 'Maureen'.

Our daily triple happy hour program (12noon, 4pm, 9.30pm) features the best deal on the island where you buy one drink and get another drink absolutely free. The 'Banana Tree Colada' is indeed a favourite cocktail of many guests, right up there with the 'Tsunami' & 'Raro Island Iced Tea' - aka 'rocket fuel'.

We hope to see you again in April.
