As we enter the main gate into a simple courtyard after going through a winding narrow road through a tiny village, we thought its just too plain. But how wrong are we. As we proceeded up a ramp to its ornate inner gate and turned into the main courtyard, we knew this is a hidden oasis.

The 16th generation owner and her courteous husband with their hands on personal approach in running this 340 yrs old fort just make this place a once in a life time experience. Saved from a totally run down state, the owner has managed to turn it around into a fabulous premium heritage stay. Rooms are beautifully furnished with modern amenities. A Rajasthani dinner is served in an impressive dinning room overlooking the courtyard. An old neem tree in the center of this courtyard houses two pairs of cute colorful parakeets.

The place is so quiet and relaxing. What a contrast from the other cities which are noisy with the infamous continuous honking by motorcycles.

Overall its a gem.

I spent a day last week at Fort Barli with a group of friends. It's an authentic fort experience. The 16th generation owners have built this place from virtual ruins. Spacious rooms and baths. While the fort is still in the process of being restored, the owners have laid emphasis on attention to detail. The fort staff are friendly staff.

Loved both the breakfast and the elaborate evening meal. The dahi-aubergine dish was very different. The food is authentic Rajasthani. A bit spicy but excellent fare. We were given a tour of the fort. Saw a couple of other rooms as well- each different with it's own decor. The fort has quite a lot of character and quirkiness.

It's a great long weekend getaway option from Delhi / Gurgaon. One of the hidden gems. Ideal for people looking for a premium Unhotel experience.

Room Tip: All rooms are good

The fort is being renovated by the owners and our suite was large and comfortable with a good shower in a spacious bathroom (though you have to put the water heater on 15 minutes before each shower). There are many terraces to explore giving wonderful views across the countryside and a beautiful lounge area off the front courtyard. There is a pool and sun beds built on one of the many terraces which makes a nice peaceful place to relax along with the pigeons. This is a mixed blessing though as pigeons aren't too careful in their toilet habits...
We took advantage of the Ayurvedic massage on offer and would both recommend that. Other guests went on an outing in a bullock cart around the small village.
The evening meal and breakfast were both buffet style and rather average and as there is nowhere else to eat locally we felt the evening meal should have been included in the price as well as breakfast.
The owners are welcoming and the staff are pleasant and the fort is better than "average" but not quite "very good".

We arrived after a long drive from Udaipur and driving down a dirt track could not imagine the site we welcome we received from the owners and the people of the town alike. Our room was spacious, comfortable and overlooking the small town and the fort is a wondrous piece of history that entices you to every corner to explore. We took the of cart ride through town with 6 other people and the local children ran behind eager to have their photographs taken and wave to greet us to their small village. The fort rises up to support the local community and everyone joins in to embrace it. I loved visiting the pottery maker in his workshop and the village, watching the children laugh as our oxcart travelled through the streets. We returned back to tea and a lovely evening meal and then climbed the stairs to the rooftop to witness stars on a clear night the like I haven't seen so clearly anywhere! The owners are courteous, helpful and our proud of their heritage and it was a pleasure to share that with them.

Room Tip: They were all lovely

Stayed here for in night as a stop over in a long journey. Wow what an amazing job the family are doing in renovating this Fort. Stayed in the Princess room, what a delight. Large, comfortable and wonderful decor. Just perfect for imagining how life must have been there in the past.
Service and food excellent. Throughly enjoyed the trip to the local village on the buffalo cart and the tour of the Fort given by the owners. It all adds to the authenticity of the environment.
