If looking for a 5 star hotel with amenities; look elsewhere. Here you will find rustic "lodge" rooms with an incredible view in an incredible setting. Set atop the mountain along Skyline Drive you could not ask for a better location, friendlier staff or a warmer, homier place to stay.
The front desk staff were delightful in setting my travel friend and I up with 2 adjoining rooms that shared a bath. And the price was reasonable. The rooms are small because all you do is sleep in them. But ours also had a desk by the window where I sat and enjoyed the view. I had one of the best sleeps of my life in this warm, cozy room after a day full of mountain air. The restaurant was surprisingly very good in a national park and we also were surprised at that evenings entertainment in the tap room- a local singer, songwriter who was very entertaining. This was free and very enjoyable.Free Wifi is available in the main lodge. There are walking and hiking trailheads on the property. One nice thing to do is sit in a rocker by the fireplace or in one of the chairs set up to gaze down into the valley. It occurred to me that I never have time to just sit and daydream but I sure did it with that view. Very relaxing. It closes for the Season by the second week of November but I will be back again. Loved it

Room Tip: All would be good here

Okay, so we didn't stay there...not because we didn't want to. We booked about 5 days in advance of our stay. The day we were set to go, we received a call saying there had been a problem with our booking, the suite we booked was already taken. They blamed it on a staffer who was not a regular. Well, this person took 20 minutes with me and she DID check several times with regular staff, so something was not right there. The person who called went on and on about why we could not have the suite, etc. Don't think we'll try again...whoever is running this facility lacks credibility.

We stopped here for lunch on the day we drove Skyline Drive. The attentive service and nice atmosphere were quite a surprise - unexpected out in the national park "wilds". The food was good and a better value than we anticipated. The Meadows pasta was very good and a hearty portion served with bread. Quiche Lorraine was average - not a lot of flavor - served with a side salad. Bread pudding for dessert was a bit disappointing - not much chocolate or flavor, too "bready". Chocolate ice cream was very good - we got the feeling that the ice cream (especially blackberry) is their signature dessert. The ladder back chairs were very uncomfortable. Be sure to check out the view on the back porch! Wish it had been warmer - would have been great to dine out there.

Skyline Drive is one of our favourite destinations and, of the available lodges, we prefer BM. Some of the rooms in the lodge are pretty small but, as ever, you get what you pay for. Best ones are the one-bedroom cabins with large fireplace and daily delivery of logs. Restaurant is OK and prices not too bad. Cheaper, home cooked style food, is available at the cafeteria near the gas station on Skyline. There is usually acoustic live music in the bar and the last song is inevitably.....Shenadoah. It's great!

Room Tip: Pay more money! One tip is to make sure you book directly with the National Park (540-999-2223) and don't use the internet advertised 'National Park Reservations' agency who charge a painful 10%. There is NO CHARGE if you call the park direct.

We always try to get away in the fall to celebrate our October wedding anniversary! This had to be one of my favorite trips. We had the cutest room in the lodge ( wood everywhere)
and it was so easy to visit nearby attractions like Monticello! The scenery was beautiful everywhere you looked. This trip will stay in my heart for a long time!
