We enjoyed our 2 day stay at John Muir lodge. The location was beautiful - right in the National Park - and was secluded and quiet. The room was lovely and clean with a fridge and large television. The wifi was good and fast and staff were very helpful. The nearby restaurant had delicious locally produced food with friendly service. There was no air conditioning, just a fan, which is probably due to their commitment to a greener planet. I totally support this but we had to sleep with the window open and then were woken before 7am by the rubbish bins being emptied. There were no balconies and little space in a double queen room for 4 people to eat, so breakfast had to be carried outside to the tables provided in common areas. Some plates would have been nice as we ate off tissues!
Overall a great place to get away from it all.

We truly enjoyed our stay at the John Muir Lodge. Spent 4 days there in mid-July. The location was great, central to traveling through Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. Upon arrival the staff was very helpful in getting us settled and making our reservation for dinner that night. The lodge is tucked away down the road from the Grant Grove visitor center. Quiet and peaceful location. Rooms were good size, clean and had a mini-fridge. No A/C in the rooms, and it was hot in July, so we would open the windows at night and use the fan provided. Water pressure in the shower was a little low, but okay. About a 1/4 mile beautiful walk to the Grant Grove Restaurant, recently opened. We especially enjoyed the second floor balcony of the lodge, and would sit up there and relax. Convenient water bottle filling station in the lobby was helpful. Would definitely stay there again!

We stayed here because of its location - its in the middle of the 2 parks. One day we went north into Kings Canyon NP and the next day we went south into Sequoia NP.

The location is about the only positive thing to say other than we saw no live bugs in our room!

For starters we never had our room cleaned in the 3 days we were there. After the 1st day, after being done for almost 12 hours, we came back and the bed covers were just pulled over but the bed was not made, the trash was not emptied and still had our breakfast banana peels etc, no towels were replaced, the room was never vacuumed (even after I went to the front desk and asked for the trash to be emptied and room vacuumed).

For another starter, the rooms have nice big flat screen TVs but no air conditioning. I never once touched the TV - I am here to see the park not watch TV - money should have been spent to upgrade these rooms with modern AC/Heat and not TVs. In July it was in the 90s every day and the rooms were baking hot by the time you get back to the room.

*** Knowing there was no AC before I went, we took out our fan - I suggest you do the same if you are driving from home! *** There is a fan in the room that oscillates but having a 2nd fan with windows opened late was still barely enough to cool the place down.

The trash was emptied the 2nd day but still nothing else.
I asked for towels every day.
The towel bar was about to fall of the wall.
The toilet had poop stains in it - at 1st I thought it was just marks in the old toilet but after they were gone the 3rd day, I was really grossed out.
The fixtures in the tub were about to fall out of the wall.
The shower water pressure was so low it took 20 minutes to just take a shower.
The room was never once vacuumed so all our hiking dirt / dust remained the whole time.
The floors had stains both in the room and in the hallways.

Close by was the Kings Canyon Visitor Center, a very small grocery store (with very limited supplies), the only restaurant to eat at (food good, service was deplorable - see separate review of that) and a separate Gift Shop.

Room Tip: Take a fan if diving from home because its HOT in summer

Close to all amenities groceries, food, visitor center, trails and trees.
Comfortable beds and great shower pressure. Loved the challenge to take a less than five minute shower. Slept with the windows open and needed covers. Perfect for a short stay.

Stayed two nights at John Muir Lodge located at Grant's Grove. The greatest part of the stay was how convenient to park entrance and both King's Canyon and Sequoia National Parks. We enjoyed the gift shop, market, and full service restaurant within walking distance. The lodge features a large comfortable fireplace lobby with sofas and chairs. Rocking chairs on the porch and wifi in public areas. Private rooms with full bath, mini fridge, and in room coffee. Would definitely stay here again.
