We stayed at La Presura for 10 days in June 2015 and had a great experience. Bianca Maria and Federico were very helpful, kind and always informative. The facilities were well maintained, clean and to a good standard. I think the true sign of how good they are were the other guests who had visited other locations around Italy proclaiming that they wished they were staying longer there.
The apartment(s)
We stayed with two young children (aged 3 and 8 months) and were provided with two apartments with an open adjoining door. This was actually very useful as we could put the two kids in the second apartment to play, sleep etc and cook, have a glass of wine on the balcony etc without disturbing each other. It also meant that we had two bathrooms and two kitchens which gave us more flexibility and space when it came to trying to get out of the apartment or dinner time. All the facilities were clean, cooking utencils and pans etc were modern and looked almost new. Towels were provided both for bathrooms and a separate set for the pool which was very useful. We had requested a cot and high chair in advance and were provided with these in good/new condition as well as a bouncer and audio baby monitors; very thoughtful and useful. Each apartment had its own aircon and a fan above the bed so we were able to keep the kids cool at night and provide a sanctuary for our 8 month old girl during the heat of the day. There was a safe in each room although we didn't feel we needed to use it because everyone was so honest and kind. We were also provided with 'Vape' mosquito repellents to plug in. The doors also had nets so that you could leave the door open for fresh air but prevent mosquitos getting in.
Children
Everyone at La Presura (and indeed in Italy in general) loved the kids being around. They were friendly, engaged in "3 year old conversation" and were considerate with regards to our needs. We felt completely relaxed and there were other families there too. That being said, the pool area is secluded from the apartments so any noise made there did not disturb people relaxing elsewhere and the same is true for the play area. The play area has swings and slides and both our children enjoyed playing there. Everywhere felt safe and was well away from the main road. The apartments are distributed around the site and some are more secluded than others. All in all, we didn't feel like we were either disturbed by other children or that we were disturbing others. The pool is clean, safe and has plenty of chairs/loungers; our little three year old got very proficient at jumping in and swimming to the other end!
Wine and tour
The wine was lovely and we mainly opted to drink from the La Presura "cellar" than from other shops. The tour was good fun and informative and I'd recommend trying the Lemoncello!
Problem Resolution
We had a couple of problems that Bianca Marie and Federico were very helpful in resolving. We suffered a flat tyre on day one and they helped with conversing in Italian over the phone and took/relayed messages until we got things sorted. One of our fridges was faulty and this was replaced quickly with a new one, with little impact to us.
Local Restaurants
We loved the food in Florence/Chianti. We found that even the chain supermarket (Coop) had great fresh food for us to cook back at the apartment. We went to two local restaurants (La Martellina in Greve and San Martino in Impruneta). Both were great. The former served great pasta and meatballs, the latter provided lovely fish with huge portions of pasta. the only problem is that the main road (SR222) isn't really walkable in the evening because it has no path. We didn't feel comfortable walking with kids so we had to have a nominated driver and then enjoy some of the La Presura Chianti when we got back. Not the end of the world and those without children would find a taxi very easy to deal with rather than needing to walk the 30 minutes.
Car
You need a car really and most guests had one. Do take note of the GPS location on the La Presura website (http://www.lapresura.it/en/farm-holiday-chianti/) as this was accurate to within a few hundred meters. You can catch a bus into Florence from the main road that I was told was prompt but we didn't use it. We always drove and used the same multi-story car park in Florence which was safe but not always in the right place. We drove to Siena and thought this was lovely. We also enjoyed a picnic and wander around a farm (http://fattoriadimaiano.com/en/activities/#the-teaching-farm) with the kids although it was steep and difficult with buggies!
In summary, we had a lovely holiday at La Presura and would recommend it for either a short or a long stay. We have ordered some wine for delivery to the UK because it's good value for its quality. If you're thinking of staying in the area then this is a great place to relax, enjoy and take in beautiful views of olive trees and mountains.
