Ballathie is always a special place to go. The location is stunning, the house is beautiful, the interior is luscious, the fires in winter just as you'd want them, and the food is to die for. A good wine list - although not always the most informed staff; if I'm going to pay lots of money for a special bottle of wine, I want to know it will be served at exactly the right temperature and has been opened, if appropriate, at the right time.

The staff, but particularly the chef/s deserve 100% credit for the food that was prepared during our stay at the Hotel. Whether it was the breakfast with great choice, or the evening set menu meal. The food and the preparation of the food was first class.

Excellent food. 5 star quality food and service. We really enjoyed everything about our meal and the staff were so attentive. After our meal we were invited to enjoy our coffee in the beautiful drawing room with open fire.

Three of us had a delicious three course lunch for a birthday celebration. Beetroot cured salmon and desserts were fantastic and presented perfectly. Bream main course got a big thumbs up. Roast beef was well cooked with nice veg but not as special as other courses, maybe a choice of roasts would be good. Cost of £31 per person (not include drinks) seemed a bit expensive to us but good for a special occasion.

Eight adults and 4 children came here on a Sunday for my Daughter-in-law's 40th birthday celebration. We were welcomed by very polite staff who took into one of the many lounges for pre lunch drinks. After placing our order in the lounge, we were soon invited through to one of the dining rooms to start our three course set lunch. The service was exceptional, the staff knew what each person had ordered, and placed each course (wearing white gloves) in front of whoever had ordered that particular dish. The portions of starters and deserts are quite small, though the main course was an expected size. The quality of the food was first class, obviously the food had been very well thought out and presented by a chef who knows what he is doing. There are only a choice of 4 items for each course, but we found these to be perfectly adequate. For example, the mains were a choice of fish, beef, chicken and vegetarian. The cost for the 3 course set lunch is £27.50. It is very good value, excellent food, served by very attentive staff in a beautifully decorated dining room. The whole experience at Ballathie is wonderful, I cannot find any fault, the setting is especially worth the visit as the entrance along the driveway is stunning, and with the river Tay passing through the grounds giving an added bonus. Well worth coming here, though I believe it is essential to book in advance.
