Stayed here in Dec 2021 with family and friends.
Check in was fast and comfortable. The hotel is a renovated Chettiyar mansion, and there are several well-matched Art Deco upgrades, along with the traditional elements. There are photos of the owner’s family all over, which remind the guest of the history of the building.
We had booked the Chettinad suite and it was extremely spacious. The bed may be the largest I have ever seen and fit 3 people comfortably. Bathroom was set up well and had great water pressure in the shower…overall I enjoyed the stay. One pet peeve…not enough plug points, especially next to the bed, although there is a power strip by the desk. Also the internet was choppy at best.
The restaurant was lovely, located on the outside terrace on the higher floor. We enjoyed several lovely meals there…which was one of the important reasons to visit the location. Complimentary snacks and drinks are available in the evening in the lounge.
The staff helped us with many suggestions for visits around the area, and also had good recos for outside restaurants, and cultural locations. The hotel also offers free daily cooking classes and we joined a couple of them.
Bikes are available to explore the surrounding area, and our group availed of this facility to see some of the beautiful architecture in the area.
The pool area is beautiful and several afternoons were spent relaxing in the cold water.
One pain point was the squadron of kamikaze mosquitoes that descended on the guests at dusk…which made us run for the safety of our rooms at sunset. Also, the car transfer charges are egregious (at least 30% higher than other vendors), although drivers are polite and knowledgeable…they must do something about this.
I would highly recommend staying here…although I would suggest booking a regular room, as those are large enough for up to 3 people. Also, the rooms on the higher floor get more light.
