Good example of how a hotel's standards can slide through management apathy. ShreeKshetra has it all - good location (rooms overlook the Eastern Ghats), large rooms, furnishings far better than what you would expect in a small town and quite decent food. And yet in spite of the investments to establish class, the small town seediness seems to creep in - through the indifferent cleanliness, the generally shabby reception staff (the manager was asleep when we checked out in the morning, the security guard updated my bill while I swiped my credit card in the hotel's machine), and the noise of the traffic and generator set in the background.
I really wish this hotel well as it is a god-send during our drive from Mumbai to Kolkata and would love to see it smarten up. But as with many other things in life, it probably needs competition to get out of its stupor.
