“Great service and just what we were looking for!”
Reviewed 20 January 2012

I stayed a Ballyliffin Lodge as part of a girls weekend away. The rooms were lovely (although not the largest) and beds comfy. The Spa was put to good use, I had a elixir message which I would highly recommend.

On the Friday evening we ate in bar where the food was of good quality and enjoyed some drink back in our rooms. On the Saturday evening we had dinner in the hotels restaurant which was really delicious and the service was top notch!

Breakfast each morning was a hot full Irish breakfast, the only complaint being that the wait on toast was very slow, especially when you have a plate of hot food in front of you.

The Ballyliffin Lodge Hotel is a hidden gem in the dramatic county of Donegal. We have just had a wonderful weekend, relaxing in the Spa and eating fresh, well cooked food in the restaurant. We stayed at The Lodge about 3 years ago and always said we wanted to return to Donegal (which has superb beaches and golf) and so took advantage of a great weekend offer. A warm Irish welcome awaited us before settling down in our huge, bright, comfortable ensuite room. We took full advantage of the pool and luxuriated in the treatments in the Spa (bliss). A few drinks in the friendly bar before a beautifully cooked dinner (locally sourced produce) followed by a bracing walk on the beach the next morning. The location, standard and value for money are excellent and we would recommend this hotel to both couples and families and will definitely be returning again to re-charge our batteries. Go for it.

Had a very relaxing break here, with Hubby. We've visited this hotel twice now, and on both occassions had a fantastic break. We had one of the larger seafront rooms, which was beautifully decorated, and the views are heavenly. It is in a lovely location, and on a fine day a walk across the beach to the ruins is delightful, followed up by a drink in front of the fire in the bar. The food was freshly cooked, well presented and there was enough choice on the menu for us both. The spa facilities are modern, and well maintained and the massage and facial I had were first class. All in all a great trip, and somewhere I’d happily return to.

Room Tip: Sea view rooms are nicer

We had a very enjoyable meal at this hotel. The staff were friendly and very efficent. The menu itself was great with the option of a la carte or a set menu, both of which were great value for price but did not reflect on the quality of the experience. As I am coeliac, I was delighted as the menu clearly stated which meals suited my needs. Dining at Jacks in this hotel has been a memorable occassion so if you are looking for a great meal in a relaxed ambience, this is the place for you.

We stayed at this hotel for one night and I was really thankful for that. The staff were so friendly and nice but this is not a four star hotel.
The children enjoyed the swimming pool and that was the only saving grace. We ate in the bar -Mamie Pat's- and the food was dreadful - really awful. Hard garlic potatoes with spring onions sprinkled on top, poor presentation and just gross. We had had lunch in Harry's Bar in Burt the same day and that was gorgeous bar food and fabulous desserts.
We had planned to spend a romantic weekend as a couple - what a relief we didn't as I would have been crushed.
The rooms were fine and suited us as a family. It was a bank holiday weekend and the bar/food area was packed and a truly awful country singer managed to swear during his waffle.
I don't know how this is a four star- we've stayed at Rathmullan house and Harvey's Point and they are in a different league.
Definitely will not be back.
Breakfast was terrible. Hard, cold eggs at the buffet.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for sharing your comments; I would like to offer my sincere apologies on behalf of the Ballyliffin Lodge. It is with great disappointment to hear the food during your stay was not satisfactory. We have a great reputation for our food her at the Ballyliffin Lodge so it is regrettable to hear it was not up to the usual standard during your stay.
