Just back from a refreshing and relaxing break at Shorehaven, Quilty. We arrived to find Mike waiting for us with the heat turned on and a
warm fire blazing in the living room. A welcoming basket of wine, bread and cheese stood on the kitchen counter beside a blue pottery jug filled with bright yellow daffodils and vibrant red rose hips. We could see that Tina had been busy too! Mike discussed our itinerary with us, showed us some maps and gave us advice on routes, spots to visit and best places to eat. From the conservatory we could see the dramatic backdrop of the incoming Atlantic tide only metres away. It was hard to believe, even from Shorehaven's website, that a house could be so near the sea! We were fascinated and wanted to spend hours simply gazing at the view. The weather was wild and damp but this added to the drama of the seascape. Huge waves rolled in over the rocks, the spray gently touching our faces when we stood on the terrace. We were glad to get this opportunity to experience the wildness of Co. Clare and could only long for a return trip during the Summer. It reminded us so much of holidays we have spent in Brittany ... only better.
Tearing myself away from the fascinating view, I could not recommend the cottage itself more highly. It could not be more comfortable. Everything we needed and more was there. It was indeed a home away from home. It is minutes away from some excellent restaurants/hotels but if you feel like cooking, there are lots of pots, pans, cutlery etc .
We loved our break in West Clare, nestled in our cosy cottage in the quiet seaside village of Quilty, on the cusp of all the well known iconic tourist spots of West Clare. We were loathe to leave when our weekend came to an end.
The owners are so very nice but have to be honest and give poor marks for the property. First Quilty is not exactly charming and the area of Shorehaven has perhaps seen better days. Upon arrival looked very sketchy and the home obviously a family get away as it is so cluttered and messy. We were very happy to have left after two nights. Feel bad because the owners very helpful and kind but could never recommend this house to a friend for fear of losing that friend. Perhaps we are too particular as both my husband and I along with sister and her husband prefer paying for rentals for the guests and not the well lived in second homes that are not geared to paying guests. Will say the sunsets were beautiful. Just know what you are really getting for your money.
We visited Shorehaven cottage in Quilty the first week in September 2014. I do not have enough superlative adjectives in my vocabulary to describe what a great experience it was. Mike & Tina were wonderful and had equipped the cottage with anything you could possibly need. I will admit we didn’t try out the electronics because we spent our down time sea front reveling in nature. I am already planning a return visit.
