After a lovely week last year we decided to come back for two weeks this time.
We obviously knew what it was like, and we received the same very warm welcome as we did last time.
It's a really nice place to stay, and ideal if you have kids. There is so much stuff provided for the kids, loads of toys, bikes, scooters, beach gear.
Everyone we met in aniane was absolutely lovely - neighbours, restaurant staff, shop keepers. The owner of the gite organised a treasure hunt for us last year and again this time, but it was far more extensive this time with many people in the village involved.
Great stay, lots to do in and around aniane and a great base for exploring the region.
Recommended things to do in and very near aniane include: st guilhem, grotte de clamouse, pont de diable beach, pottery museum at st jean de fos, domaine Alexandrin wine train, observatory, accrodiable, l'affenage restaurant, le glacier restaurant.
Loads of other things further afield such as bambouseraie in anduze, sete, portiragnes beach, espiguette beach (warmest water), Grau de roi and la grande motte, canal du midi at beziers.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the kids loved it, the owner looked after us very well and really entertained our kids.
There are some steep steps to get into the gite so that might be a problem if you have mobility issues, but it wasn't a problem for us this year or last and we have two young kids.
The owner of this gite gave us an extremely warm welcome and seems to take a genuine sense of pride and pleasure in welcoming guests. We were welcomed with gifts for the kids, a selection of local produce and wine, and the owner even arranged a treasure hunt for the kids which lead us to a local shop where the kids were able to select some sweets. The gite is situated in the network of charming alleyways but you can get quite near to unload your car and then find a place to park in one of two free public car parks that are a hundred meters or so away. The gite is situated on the top floor overlooking a courtyard. There is a balcony for eating outside and you can also use the courtyard to have barbecues. There is a huge garage full of many useful things to use - loads of bikes, scooters, dress up costumes/toys for the kids, cool box, masks and inflatables etc. All towels/linen are provided including towels for swimming. It's is not luxurious, but it is a very charming, spacious, and well equipped gite which is well situated for exploring the herault region and further afield. Very close to St Guilhem and pont de diable, and the owner provided a free parking pass for the pont de diable car park which we used several times. Not a huge amount going on in Aniane, but there are a few nice restaurants and everything is much cheaper then in St Guilhem. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider booking again next time we come back to the region.
