It’s a statue , what’s the big deal . I don’t celebrate Christopher Columbus. There’s nothing close to do, it’s just a walk to see it. You can continue driven and get to Bocata smokehouse or salitre (both excellent restaurant, I prefer Bocata) .
I love this type of attraction when they are accompanied by amazing history, not this . Children are bored even before getting there.

Driving into Arecibo you can't help but to notice this gigantic statue, it's taller than the Statue of Liberty. There is some mixed emotion about it having Christopher Columbus on the statue. The craftsmanship, however, is exceptional. It was closed when we arrived so we did not get any closer than the gate. Apparently there are steps to the top with an overlook which I can only imagine would be stunning. You can see the statue from the lighthouse....it's huge.

I visited this place out of curiosity as you can see it from far away. The place still under construction, the entrance is very hard to see. This place is now close . You most stop by the side of the road and take a picture. It is very tall an impressive.

The Christopher Columbus monument is made of bronze and is over 350 feet tall making it the tallest statue in the Western hemisphere. For comparison, the Statue of Liberty is 151 feet tall. You can see it from Cueva Del Indio which is a mile away.
