Located below a 7/11 convienence store at the end of Fenchihu Old Street area in Fenchihu Village (not to be confused with Fenchihu Street Hotel which is 5 mins walk away down the hill).
The hotel is old, clunky and run down catering to the Chinese tourists. Robotic and disinterested checkin - you are given maps showing free tours and times, instructions on TV, humidifier, hot water usage, instructions on how to tell them to clean your room, the breakfast voucher and dinner ordering etc. Checkin not until 3pm. Restricted hours for hot water (6am-9am, 5.30pm-11pm).
We stayed one night in a Japanese style room and it was awful. No fridge, no toiletries, thin towels, cold room, and very very uncomfortable. Ended up booking another room (a room with western bed) and changing rooms the next night. Room had two double beds. Room was tiny, with small TV. No fridge, no toiletries, no water, thin towels, Asian style bathroom / wet area, hairdryer next to TV (dry area!). Both rooms have a water urn you need to fill and boil. We left this hotel one day early.
The hotel has many steps and is not suitable for people with disability / knee issues. No lift. The town has many steps and is very steep in parts.
Noisy hotel at night, people laughing and talking until 3am, thin walls. A generator or machine was going all night and then the sound of chopping started about 5am. And don’t forget the roosters crowing. Worst sleep in a supposed peaceful mountain area. The hotel had a urine smell in the hallways and basement.
Breakfast was served in a basement and was only Chinese style. No bread, fruit, tea or coffee. Asked at reception and they confirmed only Chinese style. No staff were down in the basement to assist with our questions. It appears if you turn right from hotel entrance and walk 10 steps, a lady is serving omelettes with spring onion, clean place and open early.
Dinner option offered in the hotel had to be ordered by 5pm, a set menu depending on how many people - and menu only in Chinese. Reception lady kind of explained, sort of half heartedly what the set menu was for two people, some fish dish, maybe chicken, rice etc.
Hints: We ended up eating at the small restaurant called Yi Pin Xiang Dinning Room immediate left as you exit the hotel - had fantastic meal, cold beer and pleasant staff. Menu in translated English / Chinese. The main street closes down about 6/7 pm (in winter). It’s a quiet cold town after dark. Bed by 9pm.
7/11 stocks instant noodles, biscuits, cakes, cold drinks and beer, hard liquor, chips, lollies, ice creams, coffee and tea etc. Closes 11pm. Helpful staff. We bought 3 in 1 coffee sachets from 7/11.
We found the donut place but dough was not ready until 9am one morning, but the next morning it was ready earlier. Facebook page says 8am. Its an old residential house. 40 TWD for two donuts - yum also.
Car parking was hard. A very small parking lot (10 cars) on the downhill side of hotel (3min Walk). A few spots in the rear laneway of hotel (also downhill). A large parking area on the other side (the upside) of the hotel, over the railway line and above the railway line. It’s about a 10min walk, down timber stairs, across rail line, along rail line and through the old shopping street.
