Its not difficult to find. We came to XinBeitou for Onsen so did a small walking tour around the area. All walking distance.. library , museum, public hot spring than hell.
No need to purposely go but since you are in the area , just pop by and see since there is no entrance fee.

A neat thermal lake with no admission fee. The lake is nearly boiling and they used to let locals cook food here until too many people were seriously burned. Interestingly the lake also naturally mildly radioactive.

Otherwise a picturesque 15 minute excursion. No reason not to check it out.

Just saw a miserable pond with hot water & strong sulphuric smell. Nothing fantastic. Renovation work was ongoing.

We went here out of curiosity, included in the list of places we visited to while on a day-long car rental to explore the outskirts of Taipei. Beitou Thermal Valley is nice to see, the steam rising gave the place a mystical look. You'll probably just spend 10 minutes or so here strolling and taking some photos. If you are in the area going to a hotspring resort nearby, do check this out.
