The Curio Bay Boutique Studios are one of the main attractions of our trips to New Zealand. Our most recent stay was the fourth time we have stayed. Sitting in the giant bed looking out at the surf (watching the dolphins if they make an appearance!) just cannot be beaten. Be warned though - it's really hard to take your eyes off the view once you're there!

The studios are located right on the beach, with a track leading straight to the sand. The track is shared by the penguins who nest in the front garden and use it to go out to sea and back (you'll often be able to see their footprints in the sand).

Part of the appeal of the studios is how remote they are. Once you're there, you won't want to leave to make the long trip to the nearest dairy, so make sure that you take all of your supplies with you. Cooking facilities are a two ring hob and a microwave, so there's plenty of options available.

It's just a short walk (about 5 minutes) to the Petrified Forest and the beach is literally on the doorstep, so a great place to get away from it all. If you do feel the need to stay in touch with the outside world though, the recently added wifi is surprisingly reliable.

The studios are the perfect place to relax and make a great romantic getaway.

Luxury accommodations at a bargain price! The studios are on the beachfront, with large windows and a sliding glass door to maximize the gorgeous view. Everything about the place speaks of class and quality -- from the comfy king sized bed and quality furnishings to the well-appointed kitchen. I hadn't planned on doing laundry, but the washer and dryer (with detergent provided) were right outside the studio, so I took advantage of its convenience. In Queenstown, Akaroa, Kaikoura, and other busy tourist hubs, the price would be double, if not more.

As the room we were to use was undergoing some repairs we were accommodated in a separated part of Dani and Nick's house. The room was excellent, leading straight onto an enormous beach. There are no restaurants in the area, thus you have to self cater; there was a two ring oven but a microwave would have been more than useful. It would have been good to spend more than a single night at this location and walk the entire beach.

This place has it all! Excellent roomy accommodations, with a gorgeous view! When the drapes are open you can see the ocean from the front porch - out the back windows. In fact, you can wake up in the morning and see the ocean from the bed! Did I mention this place has a killer view!?! Make certain you bring in your own food, as this place has no store nor restaurant.

every holiday needs a wow factor and this was ours. We stayed in the apartment. It had great views of the bay. We watched hectors dolphins surfing from the deck and walked on the beach to see the petrified forest. On our first night we saw the blue penguins coming back to their nest under our apartment.. The bathroom was amazing. the bed was comfortable and the owners very friendly.
Cooking in the apartment is limited. No microwave just two rings and a toaster. We bought pasta and a sauce with us as well as wine, and had a lovely meal on both nights while we watched the dolphins. We also bought fruit and yoghurt for breakfast which we ate sat on the decking. As long as you prepare before you come it is no problem.
An amazing place where we chilled out
