As we neared the Curio Bay area, driving in the rain and gusty winds and not much of a town in sight, we were wondering what kind of accommodations will greet us. And wow were we surprised! We booked the boutique studio, and it was such a comfortable refuge from the elements. great insulation - it matters when the winds reached gale force!

The decor is rustic chic, with lots of wood elements yet clean and has the usual modern comforts. Minus the TV and wifi, but that makes it a great retreat. There was a proper dining table, small kitchenette that is pretty well-equipped, a sitting area with a cd player and good selection of cds. We put on some Frank Sinatra and the atmosphere was just so serene and romantic. Bathroom is also fairly large, though the ventilation wasn't great.

The cottage actually sits right by the beach with views of waves crashing on one side, and farmlands with sheep on the other side. In the middle of the night, we were woken up by the chorus of penguins nesting under our deck! What a unique experience! Caught a glimpse of a couple of little ones scuttling across the deck!

We only stayed one night, but I can imagine if we stayed longer, it would be nice to just sit out and enjoy the views, or read, or reflect and do some writing. When we checked out, Dani advised us to take a walk along the headlands and the views was so amazing!

A couple of things to note:
- When it rains, the deck on the back of the studio is very slippery. My husband slipped and fell while transferring things from the car, so take care and move slowly!
- Although we were advised to bring our own food supplies, we somehow didn't believe that there was really no food for miles around. And yes, there is literally no restaurant/groceries/anything. There is a general store in the campervan grounds down the road but still it is wise to bring adequate supplies! Buy a hunk of meat to roast and some beer in last town before driving down (there's an outdoor grill), you will be thankful.

This was really a hidden find, recommended by our friends who stayed here. I'm so glad we modified our itinerary to make time for a stop!

The past reviews say it all. VERY good accommodation and pretty good price for what it is.
Only one slightly (very slightly) annoying thing is that the bathroom vanity is quite high and the basin is also high sided, so for a hobbit like me (who shaves the old fashion way) it’s pretty difficult.
However, overall very nice size room, good kitchen, well fitted out with utensils, coffee plunger (with coffee). Comfortable bed and great heater. Don’t bother messing around – just stay here!

Studio is right on the beach and the views are stunning. The bed and bedding was so cozy. Overall it was clean and nicely decorated. The good toiletries were a nice touch. I loved having no tv and wifi, they had cards available and that was really fun. Kitchen is well equipt. It was a lovely relaxing stay and I'm sure we'll be back!

What a wonderful place to spend a few days getting away from it all. The lack of TV and WiFi was a real treat. Although the weather was mostly cold and rainy, the warm studio accommodation with amazing views of the bay was the perfect spot to sit/lie and read, chat, and drink hot chocolate. The bed was exceptionally comfortable, with one of the loveliest views ever. We did a little bit of improvising in order to cook some of the food we brought with us (limited cooking facilities), but that only added to the charm of our stay. We enjoyed hearing the blue penguin choir (under the deck) at night, and will certainly return when back in this area.

Great to watch the blue penguins coming to the lodge. Bed very comfortable.
Kitchen needs an oven, as no places really to eat out in evening, but it is winter season.
Bathroom quite cold, as no underfloor heating, just heat lamps. Floor took a long time to dry near shower.
Just to be warned nextdoor is a building site. Loud music and construction work started at 0900 until 1930am. They even had floodlight when it got dark. Not a relaxing atmosphere at the moment.

Room Tip: Have lodge on the right away from building site noise
