“Snack after a hike”

We stopped after we did a long hike to have a cold drink and a snack. We were told that the kitchen was closed but they could make some tiropites for us as a special treat! Well they were pretty much what I make at home and we were charged €10 for 2 soft drinks and a small plate of tiropites! This is excessive considering we pay around €20 for lunch with beer or ouzo at other eateries on the island! And to top it all off, no receipt was issued! Disgraceful given the current economic climate in Greece! Would not recommend!

Gialia is a very modern restaurant, by the sea. Very nice decorated. the menu has a variety of fish, meat ect food but it is too expensive and the service is very bad, too slow and non-professionals.
We went two our 2-years old twins, that were hungry. We waited 45' for a waitress to take an order and another 45; for salad to come. in-between period, we asked for some bread, in order kids to eat and not to cry and nobody paid attention to us.

The location is great if you're looking for something to eat after a dip in the sea.
The aesthetics of the space are very clean and sleek.
The menu is quite nice, not too large not too small.
Unfortunately we were not impressed with the food. I have a picture of my risotto attached which had great potential but was undercooked.
There is room for improvement and I really hope they do step it up cause they have a great foundation.

First of all, the opening hours on Tripadvisor are wrong; it's open all day and into the evening during the summer.

I've been coming to Yalia for over 30 years now. (Gialia is a poor transliteration: it's pronounced Yal-ya with the stress on the first 'a'). It was a simple taverna back then, and the outside area was limited to the seating in the sunken area immediately in front of the building, so you only ever got a view of the road.

I can't remember exactly when they added the new seating area, but it's made a huge difference to the place, and instead of being a basic taverna, the restaurant produces the best food for miles around, and I include Chora in that assertion.

The menu is reasonably extensive, with a range of fish, seafood and meat dishes, with plenty of salads and veg dishes in there too. Everything is freshly cooked and good quality. Some of the dishes (like the beetroot salad) are very different and well worth giving a go. Overall the food really is excellent. Greek taverna food at its best.

The service can be quite slow, but this is Greece. They'll get to you eventually.

Yalia itself isn't really much more than a beach and a few houses, although it
's been built up quite a lot over the years. There's a second beach, Piso Yalia, which you can get to by climbing up, then down, some steps up the road from the far end of the beach. Or you can swim round.

Piso Yalia is now built-up (and spoilt by it, unfortunately) as people are attracted by the sandy beach. You'll find a beach bar there complete with diesel generator and obnoxious music to ruin the tranquility. Yalia itself is a mixture of sandy and stony (once you get into the sea it's sandy) and is less popular for that reason. There's the added benefit of the river though, which is very pretty with its swans, geese, ducks, terrapins, fish and eels (these aren't on the menu). Plus you can park right by the beach.

If you're staying elsewhere in Andros, it's well worth the trip. If you're in Gialia or Stenies then you'll probably end up here a lot.

Spectacular setting, beautiful environment, delicious food.
We ate at "Lila's" twice. Lovely experience both times.
One suggestion: In need of more staff when busy especially during lunch time.
Definitely, the prettiest and sweetest owner in Andros. Thank you Lila!!!
