“Cute place !”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 November 2011

Apani Dhani is situated in a nice place but you have to take your car to visit the Havelis, the rooms are nice decorated and confortable, staff is nice. There is few negative points : at 9.30 p.m everybody must go to bed, and if you plan to eat outside comeback before 9.30p.m because they will close all doors ! The night was noisy (the road behind, the speaker of the mosque are not far, and the music of Hindu temple was very lowed ... in the middle of night all people were wake up) Maybe it was not our night !

We visited Apani Dhani after 10 days of India at the end of august. The owner told us about his country, about the customs, the beliefs, the pro's and the con's. We loved how this man could really make you feel welcome in his home, show you around and still expect you to respect his culture. We learned a lot from him and this home is the perfect getaway after an exhausting trip through the noisy cities of Radjasthan. I also think this is the man to contact if you want to enjoy India in a sustainable way. We made a detour to stay in this place, and it was worth it.
Tip: take the cooking class
Tip2: the wooden carved boxes by his son are beautiful. My father was very happy with his gift.

Room Tip: Don't bargain for prices here. The prices are correct and you get more value for your money than...

It was our last stop before going back home after an exciting tour through Rajastan. This quiet little hotel is located in the small city of Nawalgarh and is a real oasis. The rooms are situated in mud huts and have a lovely strawy smell. The decoration is simpel and loving, all rooms are very clean. They are self-supporters and provide only vegetarian, organic food. There is a field and a cow behind the house! The food was delicious and arranged in the most fondly way with personal name tags on the dishes. We sat in the courtyard with the other guests, it was just perfect. The owner is a very courteous man who speaks several languages. His son even tought us how to make real masala chai, it was a genuin individual and friendly contact. I really appreciated the time they took for us and can only recommand this great place which made our journey even more complete.

We have spent about 6 months travelling India in three visits during the last four years. Therefore, we have been to all sort of accommodations in all the major touristic area.

This place is just heaven compared to most of the guesthouses / hotels we have seen so far. It is clean, away from the noise of the city, offering healthy food and good advice.
Furthermore, the owner is mastering very well languages such as english and french and is very much involved in the shekawati culture preservation.

Now, as it is an eco-lodge, you do not have access to all commodities that a five star hotel would provide. You have to accept certain rules (which could be considered as strict) and accept being away from the city center, sourrounded by fields, a cow, three cats and a family.

For us, we felt at home, discovering differently the region (bike, walking), talking very interesting topics with the owner and felt we had a good rest at the end of our stay in India.
It is away from the classical touristic circuit and the project is excellent.

We have stayed three nights and we would not advise to stay less than two nights in Nalwagarh to discover better the culture in a different way.

If You like to learn local techniques of Rajasthan (Woodcarving, Tie&Dye, Bangles, Cooking....) and discover the culture of Shekawati, Opani Dhani organises 4 hours session. We tried the Tie and Dye and WoodCarving and were happy to have a different relation with indian People. The vegetarian cooking is fine (even the plates are made of leaves !), The rooms and the architecture are very sensitivel. Mr Ramesh Jangid, a fine connaisseur of Rajasthan and a very implicate actor of local development helps us to connect with Indian Culture.
