One of the part of italy this beautiful church...it's very clean very simple and the history of this church it's very impressive
Spent about an hour walking through some parts of it before we had lunch at nearby Locanda Vecchia Pavia Al Mulino. The monastery and Locanda restaurant combined make it a worthwhile trip from Milan. Wish I spent more time walking through the entire space.
There is nothing much else to do in the city, but cloister is nice and worth seeing. If you are driving with a car and have a chance do visit - do it!
This cloister with church and two incredible beautiful cloister courts is a jewel. Unique pieces of art in perfect condition. Certosa di Pavia is located between Milano and Pavia near a small village (car needed) and worth a 2 hour visit. No admission fee, you join a guided tour, which is unfortunately only in Italian. Visitors are expected to leave a tip. Why no head sets in English?? The explanation is extensive and probably very interesting.
I share the excitement of other reviewers completely. Since we came by train I want to focus on the access of the monastery: Certosa de Pavia is on the Metro line from Milano to Pavia de Certosa is ONE station (1,80 EUR) from Pavia. Due to the Milano Expo the trains are the latest generation and air conditioned. When exiting the Certosa de Pavia train station head (on foot) towards the monastery. When the main street turns left take the bicycle path to the right and walk along the monastery walls for about 15-20 min. The entrance is unfortunately on the opposite side. Walk through the gate and into the church, wait at the front gates close to the altar until the guide opens. The visit is free. Fotos are not allowed. Tour takes about an hour. Don´t be picky on the language of the priest. You have to take what you get. There are a few bars outside the monastery walls.
Outstanding place. We were very impressed by the building, the huge richness of its art (paintings and sculptures) and its sheer size.
