Outstanding hospitality

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Jan 2020
I dont often give 5 stars but this homestay is really wonderful and a highlight from our 3 months so far in india.. We stayed for a week here as my husband wished to learn Kalari. We were looked after so well by Vimal, his wife Jeffie and his parents Antony and Amma :) The room is modern and spacious with a powerful fan and good quality mosquito netting on all the windows. There is a large wardrobe and the bed is comfortable with nice lamps overhead. There is hot water and toilet paper and soap provided in the good sized bathroom. Each of the 3 rooms has a porch and as mosquitos love me i really liked the fact that our porch had it own fan so i can sit outside and also do yoga outside which is a treat The meals were very good and varied we especially loved the dinners. Small touches like providing mosquito repellent and water refills and chai add to the caring attitude of the hosts. Then even more exceptional was when we asked if they had a sun umbrella for the beach, they went and bought one for us to use and when my husband wondered about finding a guitar to rent they borrowed one from their friend. Our children enjoyed playing with their son and examining the insects and plants in the garden. They especially loved the little boat they have to cross to the beach and you can even row it a km down the river which is lovely too. The sea here is too rough to swim but the kids made sandcastles and its lovely to walk along especially around 8am when the fishermen bring in their catch and there is an fish auction. My husband who has been teaching martial arts for 18 years found Vimal, who was state champion in Kalari, to be an excellent teacher He learned lots in his private morning classes including some wonderful stick forms. Our kids even joined the class with the local students on a few evenings. I enjoyed some yoga classes also. We had breakfast and dinner provided and for lunch 300 m down the lane there is a bakery and small shop and it is easy to get a bus from there to Alleppy(12rs) or a bus (6rs) or rickshaw(100rs) to Marari. Overall a lovely place to relax and see village life in what is still an unspoiled area with not too many tourists. I really loved it.

The homestay is located about 2km from the main part of Marari Beach. This means there are no tourists nearby and the beach will be all yours, aside from a few fishermen.

The room we were given was very spacious albeit basic. That said it is very good value for money.

Breakfast is included in the price and a very generous and tasty vegetarian dinner was provided for 150r per person. Lunch is not provided.

The owner is also a yoga teacher and will provide yoga classes if you want them. We paid 300r per person for a one hour yoga class.

We had a great time at Marari Secret Beach and I recommend staying if you want to get off the beaten track and have some peace and quiet.

The Homestay is nicely located behind a lagoon, which is connected to a beach. 5 min walk brings you to the beach, but note that there are no bars, restaurants at that part of the beach. For that go to marari 2km North. For a couple that want to chill this is perfect though, as the Homestay is secluded and Vimal and his parents are great hosts. My partner got sick from eating outside, and they made her lots of tea and herbal remedies. Vimal is also very modest about his yoga and martial arts skills! Highly recommended.

Fantastic hospitality in a quiet place. A perfect place to relax and enjoy long beach walks or yoga. It is a remote place, with just another couple of homestays nearby. So no disturbance by other tourists. The beach is just a few minutes away. Rooms are spacious, simple and clean. The family serves delicious food!! Vimal goes great lengths to help you planning your visit.

We stayed here for 2 nights in November, and found the place peaceful and relaxing. It’s well off the beaten track, and is 5minutes walk/raft from an almost deserted beach . The food was decent, authentic Keralan cuisine. The highlight for the location was probably the yoga class run by the owner. He makes it very easy for beginners and is an excellent teacher. The rooms are nicely furnished and very clean.

Such a great stay in Vimal and Jeffie house! Everything was perfect. We’ve travelled for 4 months in India and it was definitively the best place we ever experienced ! People were lovely, food delicious (we never ate twice the same meal in one week), rooms perfectly clean and spacious. Yoga courses in the morning was really great. (Even the timing was up to us!) The little boat trip (5 min) to go to the beach was so pleasant too. And Alfie was so cute ! Many thanks to the whole family.
