Our pleasure tour to Tarkarli.......from Mumbai
After surfing on net for many days looking at review of number of visitor to various resort at Tarkarli, We narrowed to Blue Water Resort. We were 12 couples, all strict vegetarian, Guajarati and very choosy , we gambled for new resort.
We went by Rajya Rani Express to Kudal station for Tarkarli boarding 11 P.M. in night . Month was June,2012 ,expecting heavy rains, we gamble to go to Ratnagiri area.
Starting from selection of train we felt that luck is on our side. From the time we entered Ratnagiri area at about 6 A.M. by train, natural beauty of Konkan welcomed us . Beautiful land scrape and greenery was beyond expectation of Mumbaiker. We reached by 12 p.m. to Kudal as train was late. Tempo traveller arranged by resort( at our cost)was waiting for us. It took approx. 45 minutes to reach Devbag-Tarkarli for Blue Water Resort. Natural beauty, river, water falls were scattered all the way.
Blue water resort proved to beyond our expectation. Resort was newly built with clean rooms and all amenities, clean toilets, balcony with every room facing sea. We had taken lots of Thepla and Khakhra worrying , reading on net of poor quality of vegetarian food in all the resort at Tarkarli, found Lunch, Dinner and breakfast throughout our stay was beyond expectation. Chef and Mr. Swapnil ( very helpful person of management in contact with us from the day we called for booking) of Blue water resort had a talk with us before we started and prepared very good vegetarian dishes. With whatever resources and knowledge Chef had made good tasty dishes. Total staff starting from cleaning lady to room service, receptionist and management Mr. Swapnil + Resort Manager. were very helpful. Our total stay and all tours were handled nicely by Mr. Swapnil at reasonable cost.
In the evening as weather was good we went for boating. We went to sangam of river to sea , back water and Tsunami Island. Every one was thrilled to step down on Tsunami Island in ankle deep water . We took ride on Speed boats, kayaking. Other rides were closed. Night we had all family fun. It was good that Resort had Generator , hence we did not feel of any power cut.
Next day , whole day was raining. We enjoyed on beach, we were warned not to go beyond knee deep water due to rainy season. We played, swim ,( sea and beach here are very clean) in the morning as well as evening. Afternoon and night we had family fun. All the time Resort person was at our service. Resort is quiet new, they need to provide indoor as well as outdoor games. Cleanness of resort and rooms were good ,Towells, Bed spread were clean, Serving Dishes and glasses were also clean and drinking water was filter water bottles but cleanliness next to resort is also required which they have agreed to take care. Heavy rain made water entering in lobby as well as some room, which they have agreed to take care by putting shades in balcony. These are teething problem as this was first rain for resort, we are sure they will come over it. Looking at other resort after going there, we felt this resort is better than all the resort in that area. Location is perfect , right on beach, courteous staff, quality food.
Third day a departing day , our train was in the evening from Kudal. After check out by Tempo traveller, arranged by Mr. Swapnil (at our cost) we went for sightseeing –Cashew nut factory, Jai Ganesh temple, Ojhar caves, Kunkeshwar temple(like somnath it is also very old and beautiful shiv temple with sea at back side). We could not go to Vijaydurg fort as were late. If you are covering this whole on return then book ticket not from Kudal but station near Vijaydurg fort –station kankavali to save return time as kudal is 3 hours from Vijaydurg fort.
Every one including all ladies though being very choosy , and in Guajarati we say chikana, praised for resort. To enjoy other activities of water sports, please do not select 1 st june to September end . For rest and enjoying beauty , on konkan railway, this season is ok.

Three things to do there:
1. Go to Malvan for Scuba Diving and Snorkeling
2. Go to Devbaug, which is in opposition direction to Malvan for water sports activities
3. At Devbaug, there is ocean meets the river, which is awesome and the dolphin point (I did not see the dolphins, but they say you have to be there a little early in the morning to see them, around 8 a.m. ish)

The beach is great, with white sands, food is great, especially the fish. We stayed at Soham resort, which was ok, but there is another resort that I would recommend (www.bluewaterresort.in), it's brand new and has great ambiance and is right on the beach.

This place is great for couples, families and friends and a must visit place.

Scuba Diving Season ends May 30th and opens somewhere in October. (Citation needed)

1. Resort - Anywhere between 1500 to 2200 Rs per night for an A/C room
2. Scuba Diving - 1200-1500 Rs per person
3. Snorkeling - Rs 500 per person.
4. Banana Boat ride - 8 people - Rs 1000 for the entire boat.
5. Kayaking - Rs 75 per person
6. Bumper ride or Tubing - Rs 200 per person
7. Jet Ski - Rs 200 per person.

These are all approximate and actual rates may vary slightly. But this should help you plan budget.

If you are going from Pune:
1. Stop over at Kolhapur
2. From there take Gaganbawda road.
3. Get of on the Pune-Goa Highway at Kankawali.
4. When you see a board Kasal 4K, keep looking at your right for the sign that reads "Malwa". Take that right and keep going until you reach malwan.
5. Once you reach Malwan, ask anyone how to get to Tarkarli. If you reach in the day, then there are signs so it's easy to find. At night, the signs are slightly difficult to catch.

Hope this helps whoever wants to visit.

White soft sand, very less tourist, lovely and clear water
The beach slope was gentle and sea water is clean enough to see the sea bed. This beach is much better than any other famous beach from Konkan area.
Water/Beach is safe to swim. You can collect lots of sea shells and sand is very soft.
You can witness Rapan (Traditional way of fishing in Malvan: Fishermen sail into deep sea in the midnight with huge size fishing net and spade it in such a way that it forms U shape wall in the sea. In the early morning they start pulling out the net) at early morning (say at 5.30 am) on Tarkali beach. It was completely fun to watch fish Auction and entire Rapan process.
Sunset from the beach is stunning.
There is another beach name Devbag on Malvan-Tarkali road which is the end point. This is also must visit place where creek Karli meets sea

I went to Tarkarli from Pune on 29th Apr 2012. Reaching there from Pune is bit of pain if you do not have your own vehicle. I will summarise the whole trip:

Reaching to Tarkarli:
We took an AC Sleeper from Pune to Kudal(Neeta). Started at 9.30 pm and reached early morning 6.30. From there we went to the ST Bus Depot and took a bus to Malvan. The first bus itself starts at 7 am so we were lucky not to miss the time. Again from Malvan to MTDC resort we got a mini bus which is a regular.

We had booked MTDC resort in advance. Trust me, they are charging heavily and this is the only thing for which you pay. But the location for being the only resort actually on the beach makes it worth while. Food as heard from other friends was good, as being a vegetarian I cannot comment much on it. The vegetarian food was 'Just okay'.

Things to do:
1. Beach - You can just chill around the resort which is really beautiful, sit in shack any time of the day, go to beach and play in the sea. I even took a stroll on the beach at 11 in night and it was perfectly safe. For a few step away from resort it is really not a worry. The sea has a high tide and you should take caution for your own safety here. The beaches are really clean.
2. Sindhudurg Fort & Snorkeling/ Scuba Diving - For this you need to go to the Malvan jetty. Ric take 80-100 bucks. From there you will be taken to Sindhudurg fort. You can opt of either of these activities. I tried scuba diving. The water as it was not an ideal season was not clear, but still I could spot fishes and all the corals. The rates offered was 300 for snorkeling and 1500 for scuba diving. If you want to do it with cylinders, it will be charged 2500. You need to bargain for lesser rates.
3. Sunset - The best thing you can get to see without any efforts except for sitting at the beach.
4. Boating - We took a boat for Nivati beach but unfortunately due to high tide again, we could not go, The points which we covered - Sangam, Devbaug and Tsunami Beach. Sangam is where the sea water and lake water gets merged. You can actually see the different colors of water here. Devbaug is a lake and Tsunami is a small patch of land and said to be made overnight by the tsunami.
Water Sports - At Tsunami beach only you will get many water sports option like Banana ride, Jet ski, Kayaking, Bumpy ride etc. It is perfectly safe as they dont take you deep in the sea. Though I would suggest not to compare it with the water sports in Goa, you night get disappointed.
Apart, near MTDC resort also they had Para-sailing, where you are tied to a moving jeep.
Don't forget to bargain on the water spots, you might get a good deal.

We could not go to Nivati beach, but do visit the place as my other friends had been there and it is a great location. A virgin beach surrounded by greenery.

Travelling back:
We had an early morning train for Mumbai from Kudal, so we took an auto directly for Kudal station from the resort which took 400/-.

Imp things:
There are no ATMs available at easy locations. One is near Malvan Jetty. Keep cash. Network was not an issue even 3g was working properly. The local people are courteous and ready to help. Though for snorkeling/ boating keep 2-3 options for getting the best deal.

This is a must go place.

we went to tarkarli beach this holi and it was wonderful experience. White sand and blue waters, untouched virgin beach which is neat and clean. The water sports is another thing which is worth there plus they have scuba diving as well. So i would say its a must go for some weekend gateway + water sports + scuba.
