“Excellent resort with wonderful service!”
Reviewed 12 April 2012

Was very impressed with the modern contemporary decoration from the minute I arrived at the resort. Located only about 20 minutes from the airport, the resort is very exclusive and a good location for pure relaxation.
Stayed in the pool villa with a very good size private pool. The villa is very spacious with deck chairs and outdoor bath tub, shower point, toilet and a very cool day bed area. The room is very cosy and comfortable.
Enjoyed the common pool area which has two swimming pools which makes it not too crowded as the guests are all spread out. There are ample decks by the pools that feel more like a very comfortable mattress even in queen size. The service by the attendants were great at the pool side. They serve cold bottled water in ice-bucket during the hot sunny day and were very attentive to our needs.
Enjoyed the free daily breakfast with buffet of fresh fruits and cereals, freshly squeezed juices and a wide choices of breakfast selection from the menu. Had dinner at the same restaurant on the first night and we tried the sampler set menu which is quite good though a bit costly. Lunch was simple with sandwiches, french fries and even tried the child meal as light meal which is good.
With the constant need to stay connected, the availability of free WIFI throughout the whole resort is very convenient.
The overall service at the resort was pleasant and would definitely recommend anyone who want to try this resort for a rest and relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: The pool villa is very private and comfort with all the necessary amenity that you can just relax in...

The resort is beautiful and peaceful. The housekeeping service is superb. Yet, the resort fails when it comes to the food service. I tried so hard to give this property ample chance to offer the service guests who pay its premium price deserve. Yet, whether it was breakfast, lunch, dinner or a drink at the bar, the service had one speed. S L O W. More often than not, things like silverware, milk for the coffee, or jam for the toast take 30 mins to appear after requested. The wait at the bar was often long just to get a drink. After witnessing this for four days, I suggest to management that their issue is twofold -- making staff understand good customer service and also increasing staff count in some areas (bar tenders, as an example).

The property has the chance to be superb. It is just not quite there, yet.

Room Tip: Book a pool villa. Make sure to ask for a room that has ample sun throughout the day. Some Villas...

We stayed in the Resort for 7 nights. Being the first time in Thailand we did not know what to expect, even though this resort is a 5* resort. The pickup from the airport was perfect with a very polite staff member helping us to the hotel car. From there everything just got better. The reception staff were excellent and the little touches of providing a drink and flowers was totally different to what we have experienced in Europe, USA and Australia. Then we were shown to our room. Wow. We had a free upgrade to a Garden Pool Villa as part of the package and assumed that the pool would be a plunge pool. Found that the Villa came with an 8 metre pool!!
The room was very clean and the outside toilet and shower was a novelty. (Some women may find this rather uncomfortable in hot and humid weather when trying to put makeup on). The room was cleaned every day and on every 3rd day the room and pool had a thorough cleaning. There were some minor problems with plumbing but we put this down to the standard of infrastructure in Thailand.
The restaurant had good food and the breakfast had good variety. On occasions there were mix up with the orders, however the staff would rectify this without any issue. The pool areas were very clean and well maintained by staff. As we were with a group of friends, the manager would often come over and check that everything was OK. The manager even allowed us an area to have some Australia Day celebrations with traditional Aussie food from the kitchen, even though there was a wedding on the same day.
The massage in the Spa was fantastic but is expensive. A more basic massage can be had for 400 baht on the beach (this price is still expensive for Thailand but this area of Phuket is more exclusive).
Apart from a village about 2kms away, there are no shops in the area. Pa Tong, which is the closest major town and shopping centre, is about 1 hour drive by taxi. Cost around 1200 baht.
Overall, the staff and Thai people made our holiday. The polite and genuine nature of the Thai people certainly impressed us for a possible return trip.
After this we went to Chang Mai, which was even better.

Room Tip: Enjoy the Thai hospitality and overlook the shortcomings.

We stayed here for a week after staying at the Sala Koh Samui last year. The Phuket resort has a great location on a gorgeous long beach. The resort itself is very nice. But the food is dead average. Our room rate included breakfast. All corners were cut: cheap coffee and if you wanted fresh juices you had to pay extra. The food at lunch and dinner was ordinary, but pricey all the same. In the end we tried to eat out of the hotel as often as we could. The Koh Samui Sala has excellent food, and the breakfasts are completely different. Not sure what went wrong in Phuket! I wouoldnt stay here again, based purely on the quality of the food.

My husband and I stayed at the Sala Phuket in early Nov 2011. We decided to stay here as we had previously been to the Sarojin in Khao Lak for our honeymoon in 2009 and we loved the luxury that Thailand (esp Phuket) had to offer. We thought we would try somewhere different though for our anniversary and thus fell in love with the black granite pool set in the grass and the idea of spacious private pools that the Sala advertised.

We arrived mid afternoon from Bangkok where we had stayed at the Banyan Tree (fabulous by the way) and unfortunately our villa wasnt ready. We were ushered to a small computer room around the side of the main reception complex and hence hidden from view. I felt liked they where ashamed of us and didnt want us to sit with the other guests who were all enjoying drinks at the reception bar. Finally after a prolonged wait we were finally shown to our sala villa, which on first inspection looked lovely. However, after leaving us in the villa we had a good nosey round and found it to be quite worn and dirty and in places. Not quite what I expected for the cost! The covers on the day bed, the white curtains/ drapes/ the covers on the sunbed mattresses where all filthy and stained and made me feel a little uncomfortable.....why aren't they just replaced? This theme ran through the resort as the day beds by the beach and the large circular sofa chairs were also all marked. It just seemed such a shame and made it feel a bit grotty and unloved.

The food was average and not up the the standard we received at the Sarojin. The breakfast was the best part of the day and only the smoothies tempted me at lunchtime. I thought in general both the food and drinks were very expensive and the choice of Thai food was poor considering we were in Thailand. They never explained what anything was on Thai night- they just stuck the starter plate on the table and walked away. We where left wondering what all the little things were and left most of them.....Their Thai curries were very average and the beef was horrible and chewy in the massaman curry, plus we got forgotten TWICE when we asked for jasmine rice; luckily we discovered and loved the little hut just to the right of the resort by the beach....now that was good Thai food and made our holiday! Hot, tasty with loads of choice and great portions- we loved it so much we went three times and took some friends with us who we met in the Sala.

Overall, our week was okay. I wouldnt go back though as I felt they had lost sight of the lovely Thai touch that smaller 5* resorts offer. The grey walls made it very oppressive and prison-like and the swings in the hotel block area look like an after thought. I was glad we tried it though and I will always love the pool but should we go back to the Phuket region again I'd go back to the Sarojin.

Room Tip: We asked for a villa that had a pool and loungers in the sun for the afternoon- this was lovely as w...
