“Almost!”

The official website set our expectations very high, and i would say they were almost met. New establishment, great service, calm and relaxing environs. Great breakfast buffet, they make egg benedict!and they had that honeycomb honey (sucker for presentation). Staff was exceptional and friendly, helped us with recommendations for island trip to Similan, you always need an island trip since most beach front resorts on the main island do not come with crystal blue waters.

Main let down was the size. Compound was a bit smaller than expected and the pool was way too small. There were too few deckchairs to accomodate all the guests. And this was even though i felt that the resort was only at 50% capacity. My partner and I left the pool for the spa after 30 mins of feeling crowded out.

Be prepared to pay for transport as the resort is far away. To Patong, we got a private car for 2, round trip was about 1600THB if i recall, and the ride was looooong, without traffic.

Would go to the JW next door if I return to this part of Phuket

The trouble with reading reviews describing perfection/heaven on earth before travel is that the experience can be disappointing. Our disappointments were:-
- check in was conducted in the Lobby Bar where the seating was soiled with food stains and one seat cushion zip was broken and the innards bursting out.Slightly soiled upholstery is a feature throughout the hotel, including the two rooms we occupied.
- our room was not available until 5.30pm and was set up for a family with baby. ( the cot was soon removed)
- The hotel web site states that de-lux rooms have washers and driers. Do not rely on this when packing as there are none!
- cleanliness was a little 'iffy'. Black mould in the shower and apparently fairly superficial daily room cleaning.
- the corridors to the rooms are open to the elements and look grubby with the remains of squashed bugs staying for two or three days and then leaving stains when cleaned up.
- although reviewers have stated that this is a new hotel and we believe it is only around two years old, railings on the balconies are rusting and wood varnish is peeling off in many places.
- the swimming pool is great, however, in our opinion, it needs better supervision. There is a lovely children's pool but it was little used during our stay. We have no right to object to children playing in the main pool but we do believe that they should be discouraged from bringing in lilos, and jumping from the edge. In particular we were not comfortable that babies were allowed in the shallow end without swim nappies on. It is not the nakedness we object to but the possible consequences to others of a baby/toddler soiling itself in the water.

After all that whingeing have to say that we loved our stay at this hotel! The vast majority of staff are lovely. They are helpful and proactive and every thing asked of them they do willingly and with a smile. If only they wore name badges we could name some of them who were particularly helpful. It seemed that they all had the ability to remember our preferred drinks and our room numbers without difficulty.
Ate at all the restaurants. The Thai was our favourite for both food and ambiance. Loca Vore was used for breakfast when its atmosphere was like a university canteen, and in the evenings for A la Carte or for the fixed price buffets which were transferred from the beach whenever it rained ( every night there was a buffet in our case!) The breakfast was good but not exceptional compared to other 5 star hotels we have visited in the Far East. Not sure that having the cooking station in the middle of the room adds to the experience. The Thai New Year buffet in Loca Vore was excellent and the arrangements made by Nancy really made for an enjoyable day and evening. Ate in Sandbox one evening and not sure about dressing up to then eat in a restaurant with a sand floor but at least it was different. Took the shuttle to the Marriott to eat in Cuccina italian restaurant. Was no more than OK and made us feel glad that we were at the sister hotel.
Overall would rate this resort quite highly and would recommend it to anybody who is content to be away from the main entertainment centres of Phuket. It is remote and if you want to go on any trips bear in mind that you may have to add on hour on each way as the operators will need to take the long and winding road to Patong to pick up others. (If you are, like us, late middle age, and want a more gentle trip to James Bond Island, then can recommend the one operated by Tour East which uses a small cruiser boat taking up to 30people (we had only 9 on ours) rather than a noisy, bumpy, crowded speed boat)
Finally, there was a possible Tsunami warning on 11 April and I want to report that this was dealt with by the management and staff of the hotel in the most professional and sensitive way that could be expected. The staff must have been worried about their own families elsewhere on the island but they remained positive and cheerful throughout. We were 'evacuated' to a higher part of the hotel for 5 hours and were fed and watered well and kept informed by Jason, the General Manager regularly. Boom was noticeable for her attention to the hotel guests and was smiling throughout and could be seen frequently talking encouragingly to her staff.
If you read this Jason, then thank you

The hotel was chic in a natural surrounding. The room was not very big in Phuket standard, but was quite colorful with a balcony. It took us 5 min to walk from the room to the beach. The beach was long and thin, quiet and has infinite sealine..stunning!!

The food served in the Sand Bar was disappointing. We had lunch buffet, but there was not enough food varieties and the food was tasteless, what was worse was it was full of FLIES everywhere that I could hardly put the food in my mouth...
We liked the breakfast buffet served at the Vora restaurant much much better..

There was free shuttle bus connect to nearby JW Marriott Hotel where you could take another free shuttle bus to go to Turtle Village for shopping daily necessities and sonvenair. The Coffee Club there serves much better food at a more reasonable prices and Swensen there has great selection of ice cream to cool you down in hot weather...

This hotel is perfect if you want to be out of the 'not so nice' stuff in Phuket but close enough to get their by cab. The pool is not huge, but there are two, one for kids and one for adults (although its not adults only), and its 10 meters from the beach. The beach is a bit steep for easy walking along, but you can walk for miles and barely run into people. The bar by the pool, or near the beach is lovely for happy hour cocktails/beers watching the sun go down. The range of restaurants is great, there's a real mix, and really its not that expensive. Nearby is a small set of shops, I rode a bike there twice and it was a nice ride and the supermarket was handy. There are also several other hotels nearby if you want to eat somewhere else.

Getting into the heart of Phuket Town, or Kata/Karon/Patong is easy, a cab will take you there. I got a cab to take me to all 4 and wait for me when i decided to go for a walk around and also to a temple. The total experience cost me about $80aud for half a day. Having gone to Patong I was so happy to be heading out to my little sanctuary.

I mentioned children, there are not heaps. There were a few babies that you barely noticed and some kids around, but not really terrors, they were either young or that bit older. So i'd recommend it for couples as much as families.

Highlight - the massage 'area' by the beach, where you get an hour massage in front of the beach for about $15. It's not part of the spa nor the hotel, but trust me you will not be disappointed.
Lowlight - ok its not really a lowlight, but the cocktails were a little frustrating. No matter what cocktail you order it'll taste the same, they change the garnish and glass. But for $5 each (buy one get one free at daily happy hour) you don't mind, the alcohol content is there so you are not being ripped off in that way, just don't expect the cocktails you'd pay $20 each for back home...

The hotel is new and fresh, clean and quiet around the resort. The hotel is a bit far from Patong but we appreciated to be away from the circus. Nice beach but it's not the most child-friendly as it goes very steep just a few meters out. The staff is very nice and friendly, but they don't speak good english. Specially the staff at the restaurant (sandbox), very often they misunderstood our order and the service was often poor.
