This place is a real oasis from Kandy which can be a chaotic and busy place. It is not that near the town because of poor roads and traffic rather than actual distance. Our suite was very comfortable and had a nice outside patio although they need to put a screen to give some privacy from the main entrance. Food was good and service was attentive. I did find the place lacking in the usual Sri Lankan friendliness - a few smiles from the staff would help. Pool area was very nice and not too busy. Overall a pleasant boutique hotel with lots of charm but sadly probably not a place I would return to considering how much it charges.

Of the 5 fabulous hotels that we stayed at in Sri Lanka, The Kandy House was the most memorable. Dating from the pre-colonial era, The Kandy House is set in magnificent gardens which make you feel that you are deep in the forests of Sri Lanka. The restoration of the building has been done with great sensitivity and flair making the most of the great spaces. The private verandas outside the rooms are quite magical and the rooms very well - and imaginatively appointed.

The pool is huge and beautifully maintained with a gorgeous distant view. The dining area on a veranda perfect for the tropics. The meals we had were outstanding - on one of the nights we were there we could have the Sri Lankan curry feast. It was absolutely fabulous - perfect spice balance which we could bring up to our tolerance (which seems to be well above most Western palates' preference!) using the sambols they provided. There was a lightness and freshness to the cooking which made this meal stand out from the many other excellent curries we had in Sri Lanka. Breafasts too were excellent - whether Sri Lankan or Western.

We had superb service from all the staff - most attentive, warm and helpful.

The stay at The Kandy House will stay in our memories for a long time.

We had great personal attention, loved the ambience of the period building with small number of guests, especially pre-dinner drinks on the lawn with twinkling lights dropping from the high trees. Meals were excellent with sufficient choice and served with care.
The infinity pool is so relaxing in its lush surrounds. The staff were quick to respond to any request.
It is a little way out of Kandy centre so takes a bit of time to get to lake and botanical gardens, both worth a visit.

Wonderful place to stay. Food and service was excellent and the garden and pool area was beautifully tranquil. We were three couples travelling together. Two of us had lovely rooms but the third room was not of the same standard.

Room tip: If travelling in a group, check standard of rooms are of a similar standard.
