Review of Evridiki Hotel
1.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 20 Aug 2007
Myself,my partner and daughter have just returned from the Evridiki Apartments.
What a nightmare!
Where do I start?
First of all the bus journey took us 2 1/2 hours to have our bags dumped at the side of this very busy road.We were greeted by a complication but it was sorted within a few minutes by a rather sullen Evi.
We were taken to our room, which consisted of a double bed and a single bed.The kitchen was tiny and consisted of a very old fridge,an electric two ring cooker,no sharp knife to cut bread with,no large plates just saucers and some very old looking chipped cups.
That didnt worry us too much as we were not planning on spending too much time in the apartments.
The curtains were covered in some brown smudges(looked like childrens fingerprints) and they did not meet or cover the whole patio door.
The sheets didnt fit properly (not that we needed the bedding anyway as it was 40 degrees outside daytime).
As the room was very hot we opted for the air conditioner. We duly paid 35 euros for the pleasure and were given a remote control to control the thing.Little did we realise that everytime you open the patio door to go on the balcony it goes off and also the damn thing went off every two hours. It wasnt very good anyway and was very noisy. After doing two hour shifts during the night we were becoming very disheartened that not even the basics were there.
Never mind as for the pool.It was great ,clean and big enough for a leisurely swim during the day .There were more than enough beds for everyone.Although the good ones were always taken and we were nearly always left with the shaded beds without cushions.
The noise was unbelievable in the apartments.Doors slamming all day and night and music blaring R&B until late at night.Nothing in this place was quiet.Everywhere you went there was noise. The walls were paper thin so you could hear everything.
Fourka is currently having sewage work done and the smell when you walk to the village is not nice. You are greeted with a load of diggers and no one doing any work.
If in fact you can risk your life getting to the village as there is no paths just very busy roads with ominous puddles (remember the sewage works)and bins dotted around.
We ate out most nights and were quite impressed with the Greek food.It was reasonably priced with a variety of choice. We liked Victorias very much but the Greek hospitality was not as great as we are led to believe. There are lots of waiters but no service. We could have spent lots more money than we did but once we had the food we were not asked if we would like another drink and after trying the get the waiters attention gave up.This was exactly the same in the restaurant next door "La Strada"
We went to a really lovely cafe which we think was called "Le Cafe" and liked the atmosphere there as we were made to feel welcome. Also Jimmys bar was a gorgeous setting for watching the sun go down.
I have been to Halkidiki before and was blown away by the Greek hospitality but this was totally different.Thank goodness we only went for one week as two weeks would kill me.Not much to do at all but I did read reviews previously which suggested this so I have no one to blame but myself.

Just got back from the Evridiki apartments in Fourka, Halkidiki. My girlfriend and I thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would recommend these aprtments to anyone who wishes to have a quiet, relaxing holiday. The apartments are family run by Giannis and Evi and we could quite easily have stayed for two weeks it was that enjoyable. You are in a quiet resort but the resort is only 10 - 15 mins by taxi to the much livlier resort of Kalithea. Maybe this resort is not for all people(as the person states from their stay in March) but we found the hotel to be clean and the rooms were maintained most days.

AOA 2 dingy dirty basement rooms backing onto main road.

Paid extra to get out the next day to a lower rating but far cleaner, freindlier and less machismo hotel down the road run by a Bulgarian lady.

Worst hotel I have ever been in to be honest - and I have been to a lot.

We were allocated on arrival and was pleasantly surprise with the Evridiki apartments. Very clean and pacious rooms, we had clean towls 3 times in 1 week. The owner and his wife and children were lovely and nothing was too much trouble. The room we had was on front next to a busy road which would disturb some people, although there is a shutter did not bother us. I would definately booked to stay a the Evridiki again.
